First an amazingly-timed recovering tackle from Fikayo Tomori stops Martin Braithwaite from breaking clear, and then Daniel Ayala crunches into Harry Wilson as Derby break.

It's been a moany and groany kind of afternoon at the Riverside, as Rudy Gestede completes a poor couple of minutes with a needless foul on halfway. The home fans aren't happy.

From the free-kick Derby create a super chance to make it 2-0, but David Nugent fires straight at the goalkeeper.

George Friend cuts inside down the left and tries to pick out Rudy Gestede with a low, teasing cross, but Derby bundle it behind for a corner.

And then the golden chance for an equaliser. Gestede simply has to score.

Stewart Downing's corner picks out the big frontman completely unmarked and six yards from goal, but his connection is nothing short of pants. A complete waste.

Ah, how very Tony Pulis. It's time for some long throw-ins.

George Friend's first throw does initially cause a bit of confusion in the Derby box, but a Middlesbrough body can't get on the end of it.

It does spark the crowd into life, at least. They can sense the pressure may be about to build...

A couple more attempts for Derby here, as first David Nugent's effort is blocked and then Tom Lawrence curls over from about 20 yards out.

It's been a bit of a nothing second half, which is probably a compliment to both. Middlesbrough have stopped Derby from playing, but Derby are content with the 1-0 lead.

It's almost like both are settling for the current scoreline until a grandstand final few minutes.

It probably looks too far out for a serious attempt on goal, but Harry Wilson attempts to catch Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph out at his near post, and he's forced to push it behind for a corner.

At the other end, David Nugent is brought down by Aden Flint and now Derby have a free-kick...

Now there'll be a second Derby County change, as David Nugent replaces Jack Marriott up top. Nugent, of course, is on to face his former club for the final 23 minutes.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough have a corner, which comes to nothing when Daniel Ayala is pulled up for a foul.

Derby have been dropping deeper and deeper since the resumption, which isn't a great sign this early in the match. It's a long time to be holding on for.

Ah, after trying to shake that knock off it turns out Mason Mount will have to make way.

He'll hope that clears up pronto - Derby face parent club Chelsea in the Carabao Cup during the week.

Bradley Johnson is on in his place.

There's a little bit of concern over Mason Mount, who has stayed down and called for some treatment.

After some attention he clambers back to his feet and flashes Derby boss Frank Lampard a thumbs up. He'll be fine to continue.

The ease with which Derby have been able to carve through Middlesbrough has been pretty alarming at times.

Jack Marriott briefly wriggles clear down the left before having to check his run, and the move peters out when Scott Malone's cross drifts out of play.

Wow - and now another two Middlesbrough changes! Tony Pulis has seen quite enough!

George Saville and Rudy Gestede come on for Mo Besic and Britt Assomablonga.

The introduction of Gestede suggests I probably wasn't far off with that aerial bombardment.

Dael Fry works his way into a crossing position but sends the ball straight out of play when he had two or three red shirts to aim for.

This is going be a really interesting test for Frank Lampard and his Derby side.

Away from home against a vastly experienced manager, a team full of experienced players and, you imagine, at some stage a bit of an aerial bombardment.

Having just said that, it does now look like Middlesbrough are about to make a change. Martin Braithwaite is being readied.

Neither side made any changes at the break, although you imagine Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis may well have been tempted.

Boro's Britt Assombalonga attempts to latch onto an early ball over the top but is flagged offside.
