With 21 goals from their first eight games, Manchester City are the Premier League’s leading scorers, so Joe Hart is probably expecting to be busy this afternoon.

That's not something he experienced too often in his 179 home games here between his debut in October 2006 and his final appearance here in August 2016, and he is definitely not used to picking the ball out of these nets.

In that time the most goals he conceded in a single game at Etihad Stadium were the four he shipped against Liverpool in November 2015, and he only conceded three on 11 occasions.

Including his appearance here for England against Turkey in 2016, Hart has stood between the sticks here 180 times, and kept 82 clean sheets… impressive stuff, and he definitely deserves the loud cheers he just got when his name was read out by the stadium announcer... but the big question is can he manage another shut-out today?

Here he is. A blond-haired former Manchester City player waiting in the tunnel before an emotional occasion against his old employers.

Ben Mee stands at the front of the Burnley line...

And behind him is Joe Hart. The City legend gets either a high five or warm hug from most of the City players before he plays against the champions for the first time.

'Thanks Joe, City legend!' reads one message written out on a piece of A3 paper by a City fan in big marker-penned letters.

One of today's more eye-catching games see West Ham host Tottenham at London Stadium. It's a glorious day down in the capital as Manuel Pellegrini (MP) takes on Mauricio Pochettino (MP).

The Chilean had the upper hand until recently, winning nine and drawing two of their last 13 games, but the Argentine has won the last two.

    Believe the hype.

Jadon Sancho had his reasons for leaving Manchester City and the move has paid dividends for the 18-year-old England forward.

He's just bagged his second Bundesliga goal of the season, putting Borussia Dortmund 1-0 up at Stuttgart.

Patrick Green on Twitter (see 14:41): Southgate won't put Hart in the squad again even though he's better than some people that do get in it (like Fulham's Marcus Bettinelli) just because there's no point. Bettinelli could grow from the experience and might be no. 1 in the future but Hart won't.

Raheem’s form for Man City has never been in question. But that was a major epoch in his career, those two goals against Spain for England.

He hadn’t scored for three years, and he spoke about it after Croatia game at the World Cup, saying he didn’t want to be remembered for nice step overs, but his numbers.

For City it is not a problem, he has been a consistent goal scorer.

Talking of England internationals... Raheem Sterling has dropped to the bench today as Sgt Pep rotates his all-star band ahead of a busy week.

Alongside him will be Kevin de Bruyne, who has returned from injury. Not a bad couple of options if City are struggling to break down Burnley, eh?

One of the reasons behind West Ham's upsurge in form are the performances of midfielder Declan Rice, who has replaced the injured Jack Wilshere, and faces a huge test against Tottenham today.

Former West Ham midfielder and now academy coach Jack Collison told BBC Radio 5 live: "Declan Rice is really making West Ham tick. He's been given a more defensive role which allows Mark Noble to play higher up where he can express himself.

"Rice has demonstrated his range of passing, his quality and his engine. He's been a massive part of their improvement."

Everyone seems happy to see Joe Hart today - Pep Guardiola mentions him affectionately in his programme notes and it seems even the weather has given the returning Manchester City hero a warm welcome in his first game back at Etihad Stadium since his 12-year stay here ended in August.

Hart made 179 appearances here for City, and played a total of 348 games for the club as he collected five major trophies and four golden glove awards between 2006 and 2018, but this is his first action here for more than two years, mainly down to the fact Guardiola deemed him surplus to requirements, and only used him once before loaning him out.

There was little fanfare when Hart emerged into the Manchester sunshine for his warm-up, but that was only because there were about a dozen people in the ground. He is sure to get an affectionate reception later, and I don't think many City supporters will be chanting "England's number four" at him, the way Cardiff fans did a few weeks back., external

  13. Wolves still bubbling awaypublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 20 October 2018

    Wolves v Watford (15:00 BST)

    Simon Brotherton
    MOTD commentator

Both teams made a strong start to the season but while Watford have cooled off, newly-promoted Wolves continue to impress and have won four of their last five games.

Eight matches in, their 15-point haul represents the best start by a promoted side since Hull City's tally of 17 points achieved in the 2008-09 season. Naming the same starting XI for all eight games is a Premier League first.

Watford won their opening four games and counted Tottenham among their early scalps, but they haven't won any of the last four and conceded four at home to Bournemouth immediately before the international break.

  14. Can West Ham rise to big occasion?published at 14:34 British Summer Time 20 October 2018

West Ham v Tottenham (15:00 BST)

    Martin Fisher
    Match of the Day commentator

Tottenham have made a better start than 12 months ago but have largely gone under the radar, with bigger stories unfolding elsewhere.

They went into the international break on the back of three successive league wins and will aim to extend that against a West Ham side whose recent upturn in form hit the buffers at Brighton.

The Hammers have only taken four points from four home games so far but they came against Manchester United and Chelsea, suggesting they rise to the big occasion.

For many of their fans there are few bigger than Spurs at home.

  15. Can it get more rotten at Newcastle?published at 14:32 British Summer Time 20 October 2018

    Newcastle v Brighton (15:00 BST)

This is huge for winless Newcastle.

Finally take three points, and they can reflect on tough early fixtures whilst looking ahead with optimism.

Lose, and a rotten mood could be paired with the smell of a rot setting in.

They must start with the same verve that took them into a two-goal lead at Manchester United, and then keep the momentum that went against them there.

Brighton can be cooler with their approach, in accordance with Chris Hughton's sanguine take , externalon their poor away record.

Beneath the calm exterior though, there'll surely be a strong desire to get one over the owner of the club he led back to the Premier League before being sacked far too soon , externalafterwards.

A delve into history for this one: Burnley have not won on City soil since the 1973 Charity Shield., external

That game was something of an oddity. Held at City's Maine Road, it featured neither the winners of the League or FA Cup (both Liverpool and Sunderland declined to play), and City's old home was only about a third full.

The lack of interest in a competition which could be traced back to the Dewar Shield - first played in 1898 - so concerned the FA that they decided to move the season's traditional opening game to Wembley in future.

It wasn't the biggest footballing oddity of 1973 though - the FA Cup third-place match , externalbetween Wolves and Arsenal must win that prize hands down.

A Burnley win on Saturday seems unlikely - but, as you can see, stranger things have happened.

  17. A six-pointer?published at 14:28 British Summer Time 20 October 2018

    Cardiff v Fulham (15:00 BST)

    Mark Scott
    Match of the Day commentator

Can you have a six-pointer in October? This certainly feels like one, despite Slavisa Jokanovic begging to differ.

One thing for sure is that Cardiff couldn't ask for more generous opposition as they aim to bag their first win of the campaign. Fulham are the only side yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League this season, while the Cottagers also possess the division's worst defensive record.

A clash of two very different playing styles will make for interesting viewing, as should the fact this is a game both teams know they badly need to win.

    Bournemouth v Southampton (15:00 BST)

    John Roder
    Match of the Day commentator

When I was growing up in Hampshire (and I'm old enough to remember when Bournemouth was in the county) there was little in the way of rivalry between these clubs.

Southampton's nemesis were (and still are) to the east, not the west, and indeed many Saints fans I knew had a soft spot for the Cherries.

So does geographical proximity make a derby, or does it need an element of animosity, whether historical or competitive?

What is certain is that Southampton desperately need a victory, while Bournemouth are enjoying a terrific start to the season and will fancy themselves to take maximum points from their South Coast neighbours. But is it truly a derby?
