Chris Hughton: "The gap below us has always been more important. Others have been getting carried away but we have to be conscious of how difficult this league is. As quickly as you can win three games and move up the table, you can lose them just as quickly.

"We've got games coming up against teams not in the top six but it seems every period coming up is a pivotal period. We've just got to dust ourselves down and get points from the next game."

"But we should have had a blatant penalty at 2-0 and Burnley go up the other end and score. The referee or linesman has got to see that.

"But we've got to be more clinical in the final third, We put in as many crosses as we have done all season but at the moment it's not going for us."

Burnley striker Chris Wood to Match of the Day: "It was a good performance, it's always tough coming here and we showed we can fight and grind it out. It's a big win at this stage of the season.

On partnership with Ashley Barnes: "Me and Barnesy get on well. We played at Brighton together and won League One, with Glenn Murray as well, and that's where the relationship started. It was good to put that together again at Burnley. We have a good bond and it's good to play up front together."

On Jeff Hendrick 'handball': "I didn't really see it because I was up at the other end but yeah, it's bounced up and hit Jeff. We just have to carry on and you ride your luck sometimes, but it was only our second penalty in about 70 games."

Brighton had more shots (16) than Burnley (9) and more shots on target (6-5) than their visitors.

"As a team we did really well defensively with blocks and headers, so we'll go back and look at it and then go again against Tottenham in a couple of weeks."

On the penalty decisions: "In fairness it did hit Jeff's hand - I don't think he meant it - but it's difficult for the ref. Sometimes they go for you and sometimes they go against you - luckily today it went with us.

On his form: "I'm certainly enjoying it at the moment - it's frustrating to be out injured - so I'll keep working hard and hopefully I can keep going well."
