Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris, speaking to Sky Sports: "Obviously it is a big disappointment. Today was a good opportunity for us and we missed it. It was a tough game. We expected a battle.

"We were in the game. We had a good fight and it was difficult to keep the ball on the floor because the pitch was dry and windy.

"We conceded the first goal and it makes things harder. Especially when you concede a corner that didn't exist. It is part of the game.

"It was an open game when we scored. Unfortunately we didn't get the result that we wanted.

On the controversial corner that led to Burnley's first goal: "For me it was obvious. It is the responsibility of the referee. Then it is our responsibility not to concede on the corner.

"It is not the first time that type of thing has happened with the same referee but it is not my position to talk about that."

Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche, speaking to BBC MOTD: "It was a thorough performance and a good win. We know there's a lot of work to be done but they're certainly putting in the work.

"We're not a side who can slick it around like Man City but we have very good players. We waned to get in behind them. I thought our front two were outstanding."

Tottenham are at least top of one table - the Premier League's 'away' table.

No other team has picked up more points on their travels this season.

That will be little consolation to Mauricio Pochettino and his players on a day their title hopes suffered a huge setback.

Mauricio Pochettino has just done his post-match press conference.

He admitted his behaviour was completely out of character and there was no excuse.

"If we want to find someone to blame for what happened today, it is us. I said this game was key and that if we didn’t win we cannot think we are a real contender. It is a massive opportunity lost.

"We wanted to win, at the end there was a lot of emotion, we know how important the match was and we felt disappointment.

"We made mistake. I made a mistake. I should have gone to the dressing room and got some water.

"A stupid thing happens and you react. Maybe I will go and apologise to the referee."

David Nicholson Hirst: Burnley were conceding left right and centre before Christmas. Not sure what's changed. I might ask Joe Hart if he knows.

Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino to BBC MOTD: "Now that we are all relaxed it’s difficult to explain.

"What happened on the pitch is on the pitch. We cannot blame anyone. I am the first, I need to blame myself.

"Of course I am not a person who likes to complain too much because I knew before that this game would be decisive. But with the emotion and the disappointment I maybe crossed the line a little bit.

"Today we lost because of our mistakes. We should do better and in the end we need to blame ourselves."

Dan D: I think the only way Spurs win the league is if they're in a league against just themselves - and they'll still manage to throw it away at various points.

Stuart Eccles: Spurs look a better team without Kane as ridiculous as that sounds. Why not cash in on him and get two top end players?

Burnley

The headlines will be about Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino's reaction on the pitch after the final whistle.

But let's not forget how well Burnley played.

Sean Dyche's team were terrific and are now unbeaten in their last eight Premier League games.

It's been an incredible turnaround for the Clarets. They were facing relegation at Christmas. Now they're up to 13th in the table.

Burnley

Burnley goalscorer Ashley Barnes, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought we had it then we gave them a sloppy goal from a throw-in. We needed to be alive and we switched off but for us to keep going and get the result was massive.

"They are top, quality players so we just had to concentrate on ourselves. We made it hard for them and that was what the game-plan was.

"We are getting back to ourselves now. We need to keep being resilient and compact. That's what we did.

Team-mate Chris Wood, speaking to Sky Sports: "We knew we could give Tottenham a right good game. We are full of confidence and it showed and that's why we are getting the results.

"We [Wood and Barnes] enjoy playing together. We get the service which makes it easy for us to put them away. As long as we keep on going.

"We had to make it difficult for the big teams and we did that."
