Ipswich Town prop up the rest in the Championship, and manager Paul Lambert reckons the luck just isn't falling their way while they're down there.

Tammy Abraham scored Villa's second from the spot after John McGinn was fouled in the box... not that Lambert agrees on his return to old territory.

"They were two very poor decisions. It was not a Villa penalty while it was a blatant handball when we should have had a penalty - but some of the decisions were strange.

"The referee missed two big moments in the match and that was my big gripe about the game. You make your own luck but you do look for things to go your way."

"I thought we were really good. After they scored early in the game through Abraham we played very well, particularly in the second half. I was proud of the way we played and there are still a lot of points to be played for between now and the end of the season.

Tammy Abraham was Aston Villa's saviour, scoring twice to ensure bottom-side Ipswich Town were put to the sword at Villa Park.

In front of a 33,000-plus crowd, the Villa took three points, despite Freddie Sears' spectacular goal setting up a tense finish.

"I'm pleased with three points, we haven't been winning, we haven't been losing but we needed to turn draws into wins," Smith told BBC WM 95.6.

"It was well deserved but should have been a lot more comfortable than it was.

"We could have won 5-0 or 2-1 today it didn't matter. It was winning and we deserved to win."
