Aston Villa are considering a loan move for Watford’s England midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah.

The 24-year-old joined Watford from Chelsea in 2017 for around £5 million after a succession of loan moves.

He has made 10 appearances for the Hornets this season but has not started in the Premier League since a home defeat by Manchester City.

Villa boss Dean Smith is keen to bolster his midfield options before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Burnley defender Ben Gibson is another player on his radar should a deal for Chalobah fail to materialise.

Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez.

The 25-year-old Spaniard will join the Gunners on loan until the end of the season, with a purchase option in the summer.

Arsenal had targeted Suarez throughout the January transfer window but their pursuit was complicated by wanting the deal to include only an option to buy and Barcelona demanding it be an obligation.

Reports in Spain suggest that, as a compromise, Suarez agreed to extend his current contract - which expires in June 2020 - in order to protect his value to Barcelona and encourage them to allow him to move to the Emirates Stadium.

    Arsenal v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock says the disappearance of Emiliano Sala has led to his worst week in football.

A privately funded search for Sala and pilot David Ibbotson continues after the plane carrying the 28-year old disappeared on Monday near Guernsey.

"I've been in football management now for 40 years and it's by far the most difficult week in my career by an absolute mile," Warnock said.

"Things like this just don't happen - or you don't think they happen."

He said he had considered his own future several times in the past week.

"Because there's more important things, isn't there? It takes something like that to make you realise."

The Chinese transfer window does not close until 28 February. United are refusing to say whether a fee has been agreed for the player.

Fellaini, 31, was the first major signing of the post Sir Alex Ferguson era, joining for £27.5m on deadline day in the 2013 summer transfer window.

It sounds daft but bear with me. Huddersfield Town look nailed on certainties for relegation but the mood might be better there than it is at Everton right now.

Another early FA Cup exit, coupled with an all too familiar inconsistent league campaign, has deepened despondency at Goodison Park.

While Evertonians expect better, Huddersfield's ambitions are less lofty.

Just getting into the top flight was a monumental achievement, staying there every bit as impressive. They need a minor miracle to survive again.

It's difficult to imagine how Cardiff can have prepared for this game with the desperate circumstances of the disappearance of Emiliano Sala weighing so heavily on their shoulders.

It would be understandable if the battle against relegation suddenly seemed deeply trivial, and yet battle they must.

It won't be easy for Arsenal either. It's likely to be a subdued occasion and a strange atmosphere.

You can only hope that Sala's family somehow gain some solace from the respect they are shown across the English game, as they try to cope with a trauma played out so far from home.

It will be an emotional evening at the Emirates as Cardiff take to the field for the first time since the disappearance of Emiliano Sala.

The £15m Argentine striker, 28, was one of two people on board the Piper Malibu plane which lost contact off Alderney in the Channel Islands on Monday night.

Staff and fans of Cardiff, which signed Sala from French club Nantes in a record deal on Saturday, will wear yellow daffodils to honour the missing striker, chief executive Ken Choo confirmed earlier this week.

Despite saying the club "have not given up hope" of finding record signing Sala alive, Choo says the Bluebirds' priority is to provide support to Sala's family.

Sala's sister Romina, along with Sala's mother and brother are expected to attend the match.
