  3. 'Our best performance of the season'published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    Arsenal 2-1 Cardiff City

    Neil WarnockImage source, Reuters

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock to Match of the Day: "What a performance, if Arsenal had our chances they would've beaten us by four. Nineteen shots at the Emirates, it's definitely our best performance of the season.

"They should've had a penalty in the first half and I spoke to Bruno (Ecuele Manga) so for him to dive in like that again (on Sead Kolasinac) I'm just really disappointed. The players have to think about their responsibility, it was just amateur.

"We talked about Emiliano (Sala) before the game and I thought it was appropriate that we gave a good account of ourselves against a good side and I thought we could've won the game.

"Joe Bennett was superb. He lost his father three days ago but to then play like that, I'm really pleased with him."

On whether his side will buy any players in the rest of the transfer window: "I worked on Emiliano for a couple of months and I can't see us bringing in anyone upfront - we won't get anyone like Emiliano, but we could bring in one or two defenders."

  4. 'Incredible opportunity for Liverpool'published at 22:17 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Man City

    Danny Mills
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

This is an incredible opportunity for Liverpool.

They can play with a bit more freedom against Leicester. Even if they draw they are still in a good position, but if they win, then it's a huge margin.

I don't think it's over but they have got to slip up quite badly and City have to keep winning. To have a seven point lead at this stage of the season, the title race is not over, but Liverpool are in a very good position.

  6. 'We just had to hang in there'published at 22:14 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Man City

    Newcastle United

More from Rafa Benitez on Salomon Rondon: "He is a key player for us. He was very good today. When you have this kind of players and the ones around him know how to get the best out of him, it brings out the best for the team.

"We knew that Matt Ritchie could do it. We just had to hang in there until the end."

On potential transfers: "I knew before the game that we were trying to do things but obviously I am concentrating on the game.

"I have confidence that the team can do well and stay up but we have to perform like we did today. All together we can achieve what we want to achieve."

  7. 'Important to boost our confidence'published at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    Huddersfield 0-1 Everton

Everton boss Marco Silva to BBC Sport: "The main thing was to win, to do everything to get the three points. And to give a big answer to ourselves and our fans.

"Three points away from home and a clean sheet was important to boost our confidence. It was difficult with 10 men - having played a game on Saturday. They had 10 days to prepare. It was well deserved for our players.

"We started strong. It gave us confidence and gave them some probnlems. They need to win to get off the bottom of the table. I told our players we needed to start strong in the second half and get a second goal to kill the match."

On two good Jordan Pickford saves

"One free-kick, one header, but they didn’t create anything more. He did well in those two moments. They didn’t create a big number of chances even when we had 10 men. Normally I’d put Theo Walcott on the pitch for the counter-attack but didn't have the chance because we had changed two left-backs."

On why PSG target Idrissa Gueye didn't play

"There’s nothing new. I tried to be honest with you and our fans. He had a minor problem in his groin. There have been no new offers."

  8. 'We kept pushing until the end'published at 22:12 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Man City

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez: "It was a great effort from everyone and to win against a team as good as Manchester City... they have everything.

"They are so good so when you get three points against them you know the players have done really well.

"Everyone was fighting for each other. We had a couple of situations where they were dangerous on the counter-attack but on the whole we defended well. We scored two goals and kept pushing until the end so you have to be very proud of the players."

    Newcastle 2-1 Man City

Some Newcastle fans are staging a 'sit-in' protest. Unfortunately for them, the fact that their team has just beaten the champions means that their entire numbers are about six blokes.

    They're still singing away though.

  10. 'City made errors which led to the goals'published at 22:09 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Man City

Martin Dubravka only made two saves in the game.

Newcastle did exactly what we expected them to do. They sat deep and hung in there and took their chances in the second half.

Even at 1-1 you didn't think Newcastle were going on to win it, because they weren't peppering the goal, but City made errors which led to the goals.

  11. 'We played like we were winning 1-0 or 2-0'published at 22:08 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    Man Utd 2-2 Burnley

    Manchester United

Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba: "We have to learn from our mistakes and next time start the game differently.

"Like the manager said, you have to start strong and be aggressive because that’s what they were in the first half. We played like we were winning 1-0 or 2-0, that’s where we went wrong.

"The comeback was positive but the result was disappointing.

"The reaction was good, we didn’t lose, but we dropped two points we could have won."

  12. 'We were nervous'published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    Arsenal 2-1 Cardiff City

    Arsenal

    Bernd LenoImage source, Getty Images

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno: "It was a tough game because Cardiff were very strong and with their set pieces. Of course it was not our best performance, we started very well in the first 10 minutes then Cardiff played better and we were nervous.

"We knew about their quality physically so it was very hard to play against them. It was a tough game but the most important thing is to win."

Iain: As strange as it may sound, that result is the one that's given me the most heart since Ole took over at United. THAT is the Manchester United I know! Attacking right to the end, grabbing last minute equalizers or winners. Welcome back United! Give OGS the job!!

Dominic: Citeh is absolutely atrocious. The winter is pushing their tiresome endeavors. 'Pool has the advantage.

Masimba: A good win for Arsenal but we just seem unable to keep a clean sheet.

  14. 'It is an amazing feeling'published at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    Wolves 3-0 West Ham

    Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves forward Raul Jimenez speaking to BBC Sport:

"It was amazing. All my teammates were fantastic today. It was the first time I scored two in a game so I was very happy with that.

"We always keep going forward to score, maybe the goals sometimes appear, sometimes I have to assist or provide the movements for others to score.

"I feel an important part of the team and that gives me confidence that things are coming. When you hear the fans shouting your name it is an amazing feeling."

    On playing in England:

"It's a dream. When I was in Mexico I always saw the games here with all the intensity and passion but now I am here making my dreams come true and I am going to keep working to give the supporters happiness."

    Wolves 3-0 West Ham

    Wolves

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo speaking to BBC Sport:

"I was very pleased in the way we did it. It was a deserved victory, but with tempo and balance and I’m very pleased with the boys who were brilliant today.

"We were very compact and didn’t concede almost any chances to West Ham so that was a good one.

"Sometimes you play well and don’t achieve. [Matt] Doherty and Jonny did well and had chances. It requires a lot of effort and a lot of heart to keep going up and down."

  18. Can it be a turning point?published at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Man City

    Newcastle United

Newcastle midfielder Matt Ritchie: "I think after our home form of late it was a fantastic result. I don't think too many people believed we could win the game but we did. It was fantastic spirit. What a performance!

"To get in at half-time 1-0 was good and we re-grouped. To hang on at the end... we defended really well and did what the manager asked.

On the delay before his penalty: "I was going to place it but it was so long so I decided to smash it! I tried to stay focused and luckily enough it went in the goal.

"The place has been low, I have to be honest. But we kept believing and kept working hard. We beat Man Utd at home last season and that was a turning point so hopefully this can be.

"We just need that hope and belief to keep going and hopefully everyone can pull together."

Man of the match Salomon Rondon: "We worked really hard so it is a massive three points for us. The main thing for us is to keep going.

"The most important thing was the spirit and the team performance. It was amazing today. We have to keep going."

    Wolverhampton Wanderers

    Matt DohertyImage source, Reuters

    Wolves wing-back Matt Doherty:

"We were playing well at half time and in the second half there was only one team in it and it was pleasing to put the goals away.

"The longer it stays at 0-0 the more you think about it. We’re looking to finish as high as we can.

"We’ve not given ourselves a positional target. It looks as though the top six might be out of reach but seventh would be a good finish for us."
