Everton keeper Jordan Pickford has had an absolute mare. A mare of all mares.

Matt Ritchie swings in a deep cross, Pickford comes to try and catch but spills the ball right into the path of Salomon Rondon.

Pickford then brings down Rondon with a rugby tackle.

Lee Mason points to the spot straight away. Will he send off Pickford too?

Miguel Almiron finds Matt Ritchie in space on the left. Ritchie swings it in, Jordan Pickford doesn't come and the ball just about trickles back out to the right.

Another ball in and Everton eventually scramble it clear.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is then felled but Lee Mason waves play on. The referee is letting a fair bit go so far today.

Newcastle clear from the throw and zip forward through the speedy Miguel Almiron.

Calvert-Lewin is the kind of player you need to serve to from crosses, and keep giving him opportunities because he isn't the kind of forward that can create chances all by himself.

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles blocks Richarlison's cross and puts it out for a throw under pressure from Bernard.

Everton can't make use of the territory though and Martin Dubravka clears down field from a goal-kick.

DeAndre Yedlin gets in down the right and swings in the ball towards Salomon Rondon.

Everton keeper Jordan Pickford comes and punches straight to Ayoze Perez, whose instinctive, looping header back towards goal flies just over the bar.

Pickford then bangs the goal-kick straight out to the delight of the St James' Park faithful.

Idrissa Gueye works the ball out from his area and gets Everton going forward. They switch from left to right through Gylfi Sigurdsson and back again.

And back right. And back left.

Lucas Digne then gets in space on the left of the area, slips it back to Gylfi Sigurdsson, whose shot is blocked by Florian Lejeune and smothered by Martin Dubravka.

Good flowing move from Everton and a key block by Lejeune.

Matt Ritchie charges forward from left wing-back, using Miguel Almiron as a decoy to try to exchange a one-two into the area. It's cut off but the hosts get the ball back off Idrissa Gueye despite Everton's appeal for a foul.

The hosts can't fashion a chance from it - but good, positive play from them so far.

Richarlison gives it away and Newcastle try to break down the left before Michael Keane fells Salomon Rondon from behind.

Lovely touch from Miguel Almiron to knock it past Idrissa Gueye and burn away from the Everton defensive midfielder.

The January signing has plenty of space to swing in a dangerous cross but no Newcastle shirt had kept pace with him and it comes to nothing.

Cardiff have just scored against West Ham. Not good news for Newcastle as it stands.
