"I will need to take a few days for it to sink in.”

  3. Doucoure & Deulofeu to stay?published at 18:36 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

    What does your club need?

    Watford

Matt Rowson, writer for BHaPPY blog and Watford supporter is hoping the club adopt to the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' motto on deadline day.

Javi Gracia's side currently reside in ninth spot in the Premier League and have one eye on their best top-flight finish for over 30 years.

"Nothing emphasises the particularly quiet nature of this transfer window more succinctly than the unprecedented lack of traffic in and out of Vicarage Road," said Rowson.

"The lack of incoming names reflects the performance and the team and the depth of the squad - frankly, there ain't much wrong to fix - although it would be foolish to discount the possibility that we won't quite be able to sit on our hands on deadline day.

"More energetic rumours reflect possible outgoings, although given the length of their contracts and the tightness of the deadline it seems unlikely that either Abdoulaye Doucoure or Gerard Deulofeu will leave this week."

  7. Does Puel know what's needed?published at 18:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

    What does your club need?

    Leicester City

The editor of Leicester till I die, Chris Forryan, is hoping for a striker but it hardly seems like he's filled with confidence that one may arrive at the Kingpower Stadium.

"What do I think Claude Puel should buy this window? A pair of glasses from Specsavers," he says.

"With rumours of no money being available due to probate over the death of our Chairman, business may be quiet. I am not convinced Puel can ‘see’ what we need. Outs may out the number of ins.

"We need a striker to help Vardy but the only one linked is ‘Mr Sicknote’ Charlie Austin from Southampton, a player I would have jumped at in his Prime. But now?

"Youri Tielemans may prove to be an astute signing with an overflow of defensive midfielders that could see Silva head in the opposite direction (shame imo) Tielemans may prove the be the attacking midfielder we seem to lack at the moment.

"My one overriding wish that everyone at Leicester have put their watches 14 seconds fast this Transfer Window."

My niece (season ticket holder at Newcastle) tells her grandad Newcastle break transfer record for a player from Atlanta. "Atalanta you mean? They're a great team. They smashed Juve the other night" "No grandad. Atlanta". "Why would anyone pay £20m for a Falcons player?" I feel like these are the conversations that only happen on transfer deadline day...

  11. 'Nothing to see here'published at 18:17 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

    Manchester City

Nigel Rothband from the Man City Show podcast does't expect any player movement at the Etihad tonight:

"It’s looking like another January transfer window for City with ‘Nothing to see here’. The requirement for a Fernandinho replacement aside, what can we look forward to in the summer?

"I believe we need to strengthen at both right and left back. Mendy has not been fit enough and while Kyle Walker is a decent full back, he’s capable of the occasional slip that can cost us.

"It’s not going to be long before Kompany moves to a coaching role and there’s a chance Otamendi will move on, so reinforcements for our first choice centre back pairing of Laporte and Stones are needed.

"With the rest of the midfield in good shape that leaves the question, is it enough to have just two recognised strikers in Jesus and Aguero?

"Well, if we are going to do battle on four fronts, I think we need another. Get the cheque book dusted off for the summer!"

  13. 'The most pressing problem is the final third'published at 18:12 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

    What does your club need?

    Huddersfield Town

    Aaron MooyImage source, Getty Images

New head coach Jan Siewert faces a tough job to solve Huddersfield's problems in attack as they try to stay in the Premier League, says James Chisem from the Huddersfield Town Supporters Association.

"Granted, the likes of Terence Kongolo and Erik Durm have contributed to Town’s newfound defensive solidity, while recent recruit Jason Puncheon has added experience and dexterity to a squad that lacks both," said Chisem.

"But the most pressing problem for the Terriers has always been in the final third, where, for the better part of 18 months, they have seemed utterly bereft of creativity and confidence.

"The failure to buy another forward during the summer break was, in hindsight, a critical mistake, as was the decision to prioritise youth and potential when buying wingers.

"Still, Aaron Mooy’s return is the equivalent of a new signing, and there is still time for a last-minute addition to help Siewart bring back some of the excitement that has defined the past three seasons.

"Whatever the case, the Great Escape starts next week."
