"Crystal Palace fans should be expecting a quiet end to deadline day as the purse strings continue to tighten in South London.

"Bakary Sako has returned to the Club on a 6 month contract and Roy Hodgson will likely be happy that he will provide the cover up front that we currently lack.

"A very vocal contingent of fans will be screaming out for a striker, but Connor Wickham found the net against Spurs in the FA Cup which would have delighted the pockets of the board.

"Coupled with Christian Benteke returning from injury, with an accompanying mini documentary showing his recovery process, the message from the top will be that we have enough to survive for another season.

"If there is any movement I’d expect it would be a central midfielder on loan. An untimely injury in the middle could see us looking very short and we’ll need depth as progression deep into the FA Cup could be on the cards."

Anderlecht want to sign Everton forward Yannick Bolasie on loan after the 29-year-old forward cut short his loan spell at Aston Villa.

Bolasie had hoped to rekindle his Everton career, which had been interrupted by a serious knee injury, after returning from Villa Park but the Merseysiders are happy to let him leave on loan again before the close of the transfer window tonight.

"We were following Miguel Almiron for a while," said Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez. "We saw a player with some pace in attack, who can play behind the striker.

"We have someone who can score goals and give assists. We know that MLS is a different challenge to the Premier League but he has the potential to do what we are expecting, and what we need.

"From talking to the lad, you can tell that he is really focused and wants to do well. He wants to be successful and he wants to help the team, to score goals and give assists if it is possible.

"His impact in MLS has been really good - he's been one of the best players this year - and hopefully he can give us more competition and more quality in the final third.

"I am pleased that the hard work behind the scenes has ended positively and I thank everyone for their efforts."​

Not only is Miguel Almiron Newcastle's new transfer record but he is now also the most expensive player to be sold from United States' Major League Soccer.

And the signing of Almiron means Newcastle have broken their 14-year-old transfer record.

It beats the previous record of £16m that was paid to Real Madrid for Michael Owen in 2005.

Almiron has 13 caps for Paraguay and scored 13 goals last season as Atlanta won the MLS Cup for the first time.

The attacking midfielder has scored 21 goals in 62 league appearances in his career, having previously played for Cerro Porteno in his home country and Argentina's Lanus.

He also became an Argentinian league champion in 2016 after making 12 appearances in the Primera Division for Lanus.

Miguel Almiron joins Newcastle on a five and a half year deal.

"I’m very happy and eager to start and to meet my new team-mates," he says.

"The league is very competitive, this is a historic club, and Rafa Benitez, external himself were the main reasons why I am here now.

"I think it is a great responsibility, something beautiful for me, and I will try to offer the best I can to repay the trust the club put in me."

Newcastle have broken their transfer record to sign Paraguay playmaker Miguel Almiron from MLS side Atlanta United.

Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur says Anderlecht are in for Everton winger Yannick Bolasie.

The 29-year-old has been on loan at Aston Villa this season.

"It's likely to be another one of those deadline days where Melwood closes early, and most supporters seem to be resigned to the fact there will be no incomings - barring a huge surprise," said Sexton.

"Some outgoings are possible, though they will likely be loans, and somehow Lazar Markovic will still be a Liverpool player. Seriously though, if anybody is out there, I will drive him to your training ground."
