  4. 'A potentially risky strategy'published at 13:58 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

    Southampton

So what do Southampton fans make of manager Ralph Hasenhuttl suggesting earlier that there may be one or two deals still in the pipeline for later today?

Here's Ben Stanfield from the Total Saints Podcast:

"Despite the (very) last minute deal for Danny Ings in August, history tells us that a deadline day at Southampton never tends to be that chaotic.

"Since arriving at Saints, Hasenhuttl has made it abundantly clear that he is comfortable sanctioning moves for more experienced members of the squad who aren't in his relegation-survival plans (Wesley Hoedt, Steven Davis, Manolo Gabbiadini, Cedric Soares etc.), and instead put faith in some of our younger players. A potentially risky strategy, but I'm sure he knows what he is doing!

"We still look a little short in the attacking third, so would hope any focus today is on that end of the pitch.

"If the Club can shift another player or two (i.e. Charlie Austin, Fraser Forster etc.), then there could still be some late action at Staplewood. At this stage, however, none of us are getting too carried away."

Christopher Pace: Just want Chelsea FC to stop signing midfielders! We have strength and depth there, not to mention an abundance of talented youth. Get Batshuayi back in the squad and maybe sign another CB and we should be good.

  6. Mind games from Marcelo?published at 13:51 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

The top two meet in the Championship on Saturday, when leaders Leeds host Norwich.

No need for Canaries boss Daniel Farke to do any spying though - Leeds counterpart Marcelo Bielsa has just taken the unusual step of naming his starting XI 48 hours before the game.

    Excellent mind games.

  7. Bienvenido, Kevin!published at 13:49 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2019

On paper, Boca Juniors’ latest signing appears fairly low-key - a 21-year-old defender who’s come through the ranks at Argentinos Juniors. No biggie.

So why has his announcement as Boca's latest signing blown up on social media? Because the player’s name is Kevin Mac Allister… and everyone is making the same joke.

The right-back has the same name as Macaulay Culkin’s character in the iconic 1990 Christmas film, Home Alone.

The creative photoshopping started immediately and it's pretty funny...
