    FT: Celtic 0-2 Valencia

Well, it looks very much like the European dream is over for Celtic for another season after losing at home to Valencia. It really was a quite dismal showing from the Scottish champions.

There is a return leg to come in Spain next Thursday and we'll have that one covered as well after another busy weekend in the Premiership.

  4. 'Concentration is so important at this level'published at 22:34 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2019

    FT: Celtic 0-2 Valencia

More from Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers:

"Valencia are a team that wait on your mistakes and unfortunately we made too many mistakes, gave the ball away under no pressure.

"Concentration is so important at this level. If you bring pressure on yourself, it makes it difficult. You need to do the basics well.

"If you take away the two mistakes, there weren't many other chances.

"You have to have the personality to say if you make a mistake you go again but we became safe - we start going sideways and backwards - and it was difficult for us to penetrate.

"We have good players and we may have a few back for next week."

  6. 'We just made too many mistakes'published at 22:24 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2019

    FT: Celtic 0-2 Valencia

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BT Sport: “It was a disappointing game to lose considering we made a good start. We were bright, had a good intensity in our pressing and we circulated the ball well.

“At this level you have to concentrate and you can’t put pressure on ourselves. Tonight we put pressure on ourselves.

“But we made too many mistakes, we weren’t creating that passing and it got away from us. When you present those chances to a team with that quality they can punish you.

“It’s a disappointing performance in the end. When you make the number of mistakes we made with simple passes you become a wee bit safe. And that was the story of our game, really.

"It’s a big challenge for us but if we get that first goal (next week) it maybe gives us hope in the tie.”

Murphy O Alexander: "All I wanted tonight was for Celtic to give them a game, didn't care about the result because let's be honest they don't deserve to be in this round, but oh no they couldn't even do that. No fight, no skill, no nothing, they couldn't even string 2 passes together."

Ronnie Allan: "Too good for Scotland, not good enough for anywhere else."

Every single member of the team was cheap. The full-backs copped out by going back the way all the time. That’s the safety option. There was no penetration.

Brendan Rodgers will be frustrated. I had confidence in the way Celtic were playing, the way they had started the year, but they just did not perform

  10. 'We have nothing to lose'published at 22:08 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2019

    FT: Celtic 0-2 Valencia

A crestfallen Celtic captain Scott Brown tells BT Sport: “It was a tough night for us to be honest.

"We tried to play out from the back but our passing wasn’t the best throughout the whole team.

"We will go and try and press them high up the park and force them into making mistakes.

"It just wasn’t meant to be and we will go again next Thursday. We have nothing to lose over there."

Can Celtic pull off a minor miracle at the Mestalla next week? On the evidence of tonight, you'd have to say not likely.

    Tom English

That was as easy a win as Valencia could have possibly hoped for in their wildest dreams. An absolute canter for the Spaniards. Celtic were really poor. Didn’t turn up. They should be bitterly disappointed, This was a non-performance.
