Celtic started like a train and had the visitors spooked with their high-energy approach but then a slackness quickly crept in, with lots of stray passes.

Valencia grew in confidence as the half went on, with Daniel Parejo pulling the strings.

The goal came from yet another mistake. Possession given away and a defender dithering to play the striker on.

The Celtic fans are furious about that opening goal for the visitors. They feel sure there was at least one offside decision that should have gone their way, while Callum McGregor was appealing for an earlier foul on him. Tough time to lose a goal.

TV replays suggest both passes in the build-up were fine.

James Forrest starts off on a slaloming run towards goal but his momentum is soon interrupted by a fantastic sliding tackle from Daniel Parejo. The classy Valencia captain can do the dirty stuff too.

Much better from Celtic as Scott Sinclair threads a pass in behind the Valencia defence and Oli Burke goes haring after it. Good goalkeeping from Neto, who gets there first and kicks clear on the slide at the edge of his box.

Valencia appear emboldened by those moments of sloppiness from Celtic and are popping the ball around with confidence.

It almost goes without saying now that the atmosphere inside Celtic Park is phenomenal on these European nights, but it’s once again electric. Celtic are approaching this match in a very bold manner, with only Scott Brown sitting in front of the defence.

Callum McGregor has been given licence to roam much further forward alongside Ryan Christie - almost like two number 10s. A pretty courageous set-up against a talented Valencia side.

Another slack moment from Celtic skipper Scott Brown who pings a first-time pass high over the head of team-mate Emilio Izaguirre.

Moments later, the captain just shells the ball straight out of play.

A scare for Celtic as Scott Bain passes it short to Scott Brown near the edge of the box and gets it back in a hurry. The goalkeeper has to slide in to boot it clear under pressure from Denis Cheryshev.

Valencia threaten for the first time as Daniel Wass arrives to meet a headed flick inside the box and his looping header from near the penalty spot is heading for the top corner before Scott Bain gets two hands on it to flap it away

Oli Burke lunges in a bit late as Mouctar Diakhaby clears the ball out of defence for Valencia. The big defender is writhing about on the turf but the ref settles for a quick word with the Celtic forward, who offers his opponent a curt apology.

Ruben Sobrino, something of a surprise starter for Valencia, nutmegs Celtic captain Scott Brown near the halfway line and is then bundled over for his cheek by a back-tracking James Forrest.

Will Brown have something to say about that later?

Celtic are snapping into tackles and hunting in packs, not giving Valencia a moment's peace on the ball.
