Daniel Wass makes a good headed interception as Oli Burke looks to get on the end of a cross. The midfielder looks pretty comfortable at the back.

    Celtic 0-2 Valencia

Cristiano Piccini pulls up with a groin issue and on comes French striker Kevin Gameiro. Danish midfielder Daniel Wass will deputise at right-back.

Is that something Celtic could exploit or am I clutching at straws?

    Celtic 0-2 Valencia

Cristiano Piccini ghosts away from Emilio Izaguirre and weaves his way into the Celtic penalty area. The Italian full-back drills in a cross and Scott Brown has to knock it behind for a corner.

Brown brushes the face of Geoffrey Kondogbia with an outstretched arm as players jostle for position and the giant Valencia midfielder goes down like he's been shot.

The corner is retaken and Celtic repel the danger.

    Celtic 0-2 Valencia

Odsonne Edouard gets to the byeline and his low cutback causes some consternation inside the six yard box as it ricochets off two Valencia defenders, but the visitors get it clear before Timothy Weah can intervene.

Edouard has definitely given Celtic more presence up top but goalkeeper Neto still hasn't been tested since he fumbled an early effort from Callum McGregor.

The Celtic supporters, so used to winning and often winning comfortably at home, are growing increasingly frustrated by the pace at which their team is playing and the lack of a cutting edge. The fact is, they don’t often come up against opposition of this calibre, who won’t be easily broken down and are at least as fast and athletic as the Celtic players.

The one change Brendan Rodgers has made at half time is to bring Callum McGregor a little bit deeper to play as a two in front of the back four, instead of Brown sitting there on his own. He might be the one to trigger a few situations.

Denis Cheryshev, with one goal and an assist, has done his work for Valencia. Record signing Goncalo Guedes is on. The Portuguese winger is rapid.

I've been calling him Daniel all night. D'oh! Apologies Comrade Cheryshev...

Now the second replacement has a glimpse of goal from the edge of the penalty area but his first-time effort zooms high over the top.

Still, Celtic are looking livelier now.

  10. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 60 mins

    Celtic 0-2 Valencia

Odsonne Edouard looks in the mood as he bustles his way forward and bounces off grizzled Argentina veteran Ezequiel Garay on the edge of the box. Loud cries from the home fans but Edouard wasn't really appealing for anything.

  11. Double change for Celticpublished at 58 mins

    Celtic 0-2 Valencia

Timothy Weah and Odsonne Edouard are on for Celtic, taking over from Ryan Christie and Scott Sinclair.

Can the substitutes inspire a comeback?

  12. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Celtic 0-2 Valencia

It's just not happening for Celtic as Callum McGregor slices a long-range effort high and wide.

We have some activity on the home bench...

    Celtic 0-2 Valencia

Celtic really are all over the place as Cristiano Piccini tests Scott Bain with a sharp shot from a tight angle. The goalkeeper, who had not conceded a goal in seven games this year, beats it away

The Spanish journalists round about me are getting very excited by events here. The same can’t be said for the Celtic fans, who are calling in vain again for offside. Most, though, are bemoaning their team’s inability to keep the ball, many in quite colourful language.

All too easy. It was Simunovic that played him onside. Boyata didn't react and pick him up. It was the easiest of chances to volley it into the back of the net.

    Ruben Sobrino

Another costly defensive error from Celtic, with Jozo Simunovic switching off and not on the same wavelength as team-mate Dedryck Boyata, which plays Denis Cheryshev onside as the Russian scampers down the left.

Cheryshev swings in a lovely cross and Ruben Sobrino crashes home a volley from inside the six yard box.

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

    Celtic 0-1 Valencia

A glimmer of good news for Celtic as Valencia captain Daniel Parejo fails to reappear for the second half. His position has been taken by former Arsenal enforcer Francis Coquelin.

No changes for Celtic. How will big Pat Bonner be feeling about that?

Celtic are giving the ball away in horrible positions and have allowed Valencia to come into this game. The first 10 minutes Celtic controlled the game. Valencia's organisation has been excellent - 4-4-2, but how many times have you come up against a European team that plays 4-4-2 when you have the advantage in midfield? Celtic have to change Scott Brown right now and put Callum McGregor back into that position.

The home side have dominated possession, which comes as a surprise to me, but Valencia have the all-important goal.
