The next game Shelley Kerr is talking about is against Argentina on Wednesday.

We'll have a clearer idea of what's required nearer kick off time in Paris, so join us for that one. It should be a cracker.

However, I probably should point out that if Argentina were to pull off a major shock and beat England later tonight, Scotland are out.

We'll give the final word to Scotland head coach Shelley Kerr, who says her players aren't ready to come home from France just yet.

"We’re ready to move on and prepare for the next game," she tells BBC Scotland. "We’ve always said that our aim is to get out of the group. To do that, we need to win at least one game.

"It’s all or nothing in the last game. We kind of knew that. We knew it was going to be tough playing against England and Japan. That’s not excuses, I would never stand here and make excuses.

"We need to rectify what went wrong and be mindful that you’re playing against world-class players."

Former USA goalkeeper Hope Solo also reckons Scotland can deliver against Argentina, if they "can put all the pieces together".

"I know they have what it takes," she tells BBC One. "I just want to see a complete 90 minute performance from Scotland.

"I'm frustrated because I expect more from them."

After coming up short against the teams ranked third and seventh in the world, can Scotland get the win they need against Argentina?

The South Americans are ranked 37th - 17 places below Scotland - but they did hold Japan with a well-organised defensive display.

"We need more of what we saw in the last 20 minutes," says former captain Gemma Fay.

"More of that energy, more of that grabbing a game by the scruff of the neck."

England have the chance to take control of the group when they take on Argentina in Le Havre this evening.

That one kicks off at 20:00 BST and will be covered right across the BBC.

And a wee drop more from Scotland head coach Shelley Kerr, who has one last group game to prepare for - against Argentina on Wednesday.

"The big thing for us now is that the players aren't too deflated, because we go in to our last game needing to win," she tells BBC One. "In hindsight we probably knew that would end up being the case. We were hoping to get something out of the first two. We haven't. But it hasn't changed anything for us."

We made some errors in the first half, because I thought that out game plan was working really well. You could see in the second half as well that the attacking quality we have against a top team - that has won the World Cup - and we've got to be immensely proud."

"I still think there are some questions and some doubts in my mind about what Shelley Kerr can do tactically, and it goes from the first game on to the second game and those changes I haven't seen being made including pushing that backline higher, squeezing the play, making dynamic runs, pushing Kim Little on so she and Erin Cuthbert can connect more.

"You have to have your two best players on the pitch playing well together and I don't understand how a manager doesn't see that."

Are Japan contenders for the title?

"Based on that first-half performance, they are growing into this competition," says former Scotland captain Gemma Fay on BBC One.

"They are a young team, without a wealth of experience at this level but they won the Under-20 World Cup and they have players who were in the Under-17 World Cup final.

"This is a generation that has come through a system that produces world class athletes."

Scotland head coach Shelley Kerr: "We critique ourselves all the time. But, tactically, I thought we got things right. A little adjustment here and there helps because Japan's movement was so incredible. Their strikers were causing us so many problems. That's something that we spoke about before the game and we will speak about it later."

Scotland goalscorer Lana Clelland on BBC One: "I'm obviously delighted to get on the score sheet and a first appearance in a World Cup. But obviously disappointed in the result.

"We'll take the second-half performance and try and take it in to the last game against Argentina. We need to get three points."

On Japan’s penalty, Scotland captain Rachael Corsie said: “I felt she [Japan's Yuika Sugasawa] was in my path and I couldn’t really get out of the way. I didn’t feel like there was much contact; that’s the thing with VAR, it’s these small margins that you no longer get away with. I think we were unlucky again – there are two decisions late on and we felt a little hard done by that we got neither of those."

Scotland captain Rachel Corsie sounds thoroughly dejected as she tells BBC Radio Scotland: "It was disappointing on a personal note. We didn’t defend well enough again in the first half, and it’s ultimately cost us the game.

"We can’t give another good team two goals of a start.”
