It's beyond explanation. It's a clear penalty. Okay, they maybe didn't deserve something from the game, but should that decision be given we may have ended up getting a point. Which would have been massive for us.

    FT: Japan 2-1 Scotland

Well, I think we're all asking ourselves why Scotland didn't play like they did in the final 10 minutes from the start?

On to the final group game against Argentina now. That's on Wednesday.

Second place is beyond us now but four of the six teams finishing third will progress to the last 16.

While Scotland managed to avoid further damage, a comeback always looked unlikely. As was the case against England, they looked so much better in the closing stages and Clelland at least gave fans something to shout about.

The score is nothing to be ashamed of given the opposition.

  7. FULL-TIME Japan 2-1 Scotlandpublished at 90+2 mins

Played two, two defeats for Scotland.

There's no doubt Japan were the better team for large parts of the 90 minutes but Scotland had their moments in the second half, with Erin Cuthbert hitting the post from close range and two big penalty calls before Lana Clelland thumped in an absolute beauty.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 90+1 mins

    Japan 2-1 Scotland

Japan are doing a good job of keeping the ball and almost snatch a third goal but Lee Alexander is able to claw away a shot from Hina Sugita.

A really impressive stop from the Glasgow City keeper.

We're into two minutes of stoppage time... Five subs. That should be two-and-a-half minimum.

    What a hit!

A dreadful Japan pass goes straight to Lana Clelland and the substitute takes a touch before leathering the ball into the top corner from 20 yards.

Game on, with just a few minutes remaining.

It's a handball. In the box. Definitely. She moves her hand towards it. These officials have been shambolic when it comes to VAR decisions. What's the point in having it? It's a joke.

Scotland are screaming even louder for a penalty this time as the ball strikes the arm of Risa Shimizu. It's blatant. Right under the referee's nose! But nothing... Not a peep from VAR. Is the system broken?

It was a massive opportunity. Erin Cuthbert could have possibly done a bit better from so close. That was definitely her best chance of the match.

Scotland are screaming for a penalty as Erin Cuthbert is bundled over. The ref shakes her head.

Nothing from our VAR pals either.

    Scandalous.

Every time one of the Japanese players is on the ball, she has two or three options for a pass. We look up, we look for a pass, we don't see it immediately, because our movement isn't good enough, and more often than not we make a backwards pass.
