It's testament to the board's support to Stevie Robinson when it wasn't going well, the bravery to stick with him. He's allowed to then say, right, I'm putting in Hastie, I'm putting in Turnbull. The boy was getting hounded at the start of this run by fans because he was putting his foot on the ball and it was a bit different. That's what Stevie was brave enough to do. It's really important that the manager has the backing to put a kid in, it's not just about results because we see the work being done elsewhere, and its absolutely reaping the rewards now.

The players see the pathway, they see players going out on loan and coming back to be part of the first-team. It's good enough for their mates, look where they've got to, I have to go and do the same, become a man and get my opportunity.

  5. 'The world at his feet and a brain in his head'published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2019

FT: Motherwell 2-1 Heart of Midlothian

Alan Burrows is confident teenage star Jake Hastie will sign a new deal with Motherwell.

The attacker, who has now scored five goals in six games, is out-of-contract in the summer and the club have opened negotiations with the 19-year-old.

"Jake Hastie has the world at his feet but he's also got a brain in his head. He played a lot of League One games with Airdrieonians, he played at Alloa earlier in this season, and now he's playing games in the Premiership," Burrows said.

"For his development, hopefully we can persuade him that playing another 50-60 games here, that's what the James McFaddens and David Clarksons have done, then go and earn their big money."

  6. 'Come and play for Motherwell, earn your stripes'published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2019

FT: Motherwell 2-1 Heart of Midlothian

"We're never going to bowl anybody over with our facilities or money, but we can show a progressive pathway from our youth system into our first-team. A rich history of bringing through players that actually go on to play full Scottish international football," says Burrows.

"That's the message the guys running the academy are giving to parents. Come and play for Motherwell, earn your stripes, get into the first-team and then you'll get your big move and your money."

All these boys have played together all the way through. They're just loving and enjoying life and being with their pals. That's a real advantage to Motherwell - they want to play together and want to re-sign. Motherwell just keep producing them.

Motherwell's youth set-up is delivering some gems just now. Turnbull and Hastie are both 19. Allan Campbell is still just 20. Even Chris Cadden - currently injured - is only 22. And Burrows says there are plenty more knocking at the door.

"There's a lot of credit to a lot of people for bringing David Turnbull to this level. Steven Craigan's worked with him and really developed his game and Stephen Robinson's taken it to the next level by allowing him to train with the first-team every day and when he's broken into the team he's taken his opportunity," he added.

"He's a level-headed young guy, local, come through the ranks here and playing with a lot of players who have come through at the same time.

"As a club it's a huge part of what we do, we talked earlier on about being a fan-owned club and it's imperative your academy is working, giving the manager options and when the manager feels they're ready, he carries that through to the end and puts them in the team.

"All the cogs in that wheel are working. David and Jake are doing really well, but there are one or two just below that who are pushing hard. James Scott just signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal, we've got real high hopes for him, and there are others underneath.

"As a fan, it's a delight to see young, local guys pulling on the jersey and the fact that it's translating into wins makes it even better."

  9. 'Buzzing' Turnbull savours sixth Well winpublished at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2019

FT: Motherwell 2-1 Heart of Midlothian

Motherwell match-winner David Turnbull on BBC Radio Scotland: "A few boys are bantering me saying it wasn't my best strike but when I hit it, I didn't think it was too bad. The goalie's obviously not done his best with it and it's went in. Buzzing with it.

"We're getting the ball down abit more, changed our style a wee bit, trying to pass and play attacking, expansive football. We've got wingers as well. I think it's working.

"I want to make my way in the game as far as I can. Just now, I just want to focus on playing for Motherwell and getting as many games under my belt as I can. Hopefully after this season, maybe another season under belt, we'll see where it takes us."

  10. 'There was never any notion Stephen was under any threat'published at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2019

FT: Motherwell 2-1 Heart of Midlothian

Not so long ago, there were some suggestions Stephen Robinson was under pressure down at Fir Park - especially after Ross County dumped Motherwell out of the Scottish Cup.

Five wins later, that all looks a bit misguided.

And Burrows says there was "never any notion" the manager was "under any threat".

"We believe in him, we understand the job he's trying to do and that it's a difficult task," he added.

"We're the only fully fan-owned club in the top flight. Other clubs are spending loads of money. We're asking him to sell players while at the same time blooding young players.

"It's not easy, there's a lot goes into it. Everybody at this club has given Stephen all the backing he deserves and he's repaid that with some great results."

  11. Burrows delight at 'astonishing' Motherwellpublished at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2019

FT: Motherwell 2-1 Heart of Midlothian

A very happy Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows has joined the boys on Sportsound for a wee blether.

"You only need to think back four or five weeks when we were put out the Scottish Cup by Ross County and there was a low ebb amongst everybody.

"To bounce back with five consecutive victories is quite astonishing. Stephen Robinson is doing an excellent job.

"We were mindful that the season to date hadn't gone particularly well but there were a lot of mitigating circumstances - Craig Tanner's not kicked a ball, Trevor Carson will miss eight months, Chris Cadden will miss four, Charles Dunne missed three or four.

"You've got to keep your cool in a boardroom scenario, try your best to take the emotion out of it."

  13. Hearts 'shot themselves in the foot' - Leveinpublished at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2019

FT: Motherwell 2-1 Heart of Midlothian

"I thought there wasn't an awful lot in the game. In the second half we were very comfortable. The key was us trying to win the game. What's cost us are two crazy situations that we brought upon ourselves. If there's a classic way of shooting yourself in the foot, this was it.

"Putting my old-school hat on, I thought Garuccio won the ball. Taking a step back and thinking what constitutes a red card in modern football, he's gone with two feet off the ground. I find it very difficult to defend him, it's a crazy decision.

"Colin put his hands up to the rest of the lads and apologised for making the errors. This error unfortunately has cost us dearly."

    Quote Message

Motherwell, over the years, have produced real talent. Lee Erwin, James McFadden, and it's important they keep their boots on the ground. They finished with four academy graduates on the field, which is really pleasing. That creates a hunger and a real aspiration for any of the other boys coming into the side.

  16. Motherwell young guns must 'stay grounded' - Robinsonpublished at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2019

FT: Motherwell 2-1 Heart of Midlothian

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson on BBC Radio Scotland: "Strange way to win. I thought their goalkeeper was excellent throughout the day so it's unfortunate he makes a bit of a mistake.

"A draw was maybe a fair result because both teams went for it but we had the better chances and it continues our run.

"They're a very good team, the physicality and quality they've got, they're always going to come back into the game. We got back to basics in the second half, defended when we needed to defend and got a bit of luck at the end.

"The young players are all doing okay at the moment, they just need to keep grounded. There's a big career in front of all of them but they need to keep working their socks off, which is the culture we've got at the club."

That's the thing about being a goalie - how quickly it can change from being hero to villain. With virtually the last kick of the game, he lets an absolute dolly in and doesn't get his body behind it.
