Lea Schuller makes a good run down the right, coming into the box and gaining a yard of space to shoot.

Brian Smith: Fifa is destroying football with the new rules & VAR if the Women's World Cup is representative of what's to come.

Shaun Mellor: VAR won me over in Russia but it’s been so frustrating to watch at the Women’s WC, gone really over the top, penalising things nobody can see when everything looks worse slowed down and freeze framed - these can’t have been the injustices it was brought in to clear.

    Laura Bassett
Former England defender on BBC Two

The referees are using VAR as a comfort blanket - 'please back me up, I don't want to get this wrong'. But that's not good enough. That's not what it is there for.

On the penalty from which Germany scored....

The referee had to see this. If you are in a good position, you see that it is a penalty. You should not need to go to VAR for that to be given and waste even more time. So I am questioning the ability of the officials at this tournament.

I genuinely cannot understand what is going on in this tournament.

Alexandra Popp has to be offside when she scored. When she makes contact she is in line with the keeper's vision - that has to be offside.

How can we not deem that offside?

    HT: Germany 2-0 Nigeria

Germany have not really been made to work. Here is Alexandra Popp's opening goal, which was given despite Svenja Huth appearing to stand in the goalkeeper's eye-line in an offside position.
