The ball ricochets off a defender and into the feet of Uchenna Kanu, who manages to control it.

She tries to feed it through to Desire Oparanozie but it comes to the captain at the second time of asking. Her shot is then blocked by a wall of defenders and bounces out for a corner.

The board shows there will be four minutes of added time in this first half.

Two corners are dealt with by Nigeria - the first headed clear by Desire Oparanozie and the second punched away by the keeper.

Uchenna Kanu tries to lead an attack down the right but has to settle for a throw-in.

It's returned to the centre-back and she hastily hoofs it out for a throw-in. She is given a stare by full-back Osinachi Ohale.

Ngozi Okobi's free-kick is flicked on at the near post but is hooked clear by the German right-back.

Chinwendu Ihezuo does really well to force a foul on the left wing but this time the keeper gets a hand to the cross before it's headed clear.

Matt Andrews: The refereeing standard in the Women's World Cup is diabolical. She kicked the ball and on the follow through kicked the German in the knee accidentally.

Andrew Wells: OK - VAR was needed for that but the use of it needs to be limited.

Chinwendu Ihezuo then gets a warning from the referee for a push on Guilia Gwinn.

The German free-kick is comfortably cleared in the centre and Nigeria try to break. They only reach the halfway line but it's poked out for a throw-in.

Giulia Gwinn goes into the book for a bit of a feisty challenge as she tries to win the ball in the opposition box.

It then goes for ANOTHER VAR check for mistaken identity!? You couldn't make this up!

Silvio Di Fede: As much as I want a close game, that's a penalty. There was a penalty exactly like that given to Spain in their first game against South Africa.

Neil Craven: Never a penalty! VAR is being used far too often for my liking!

The Germans are in total control now. They are not really playing with much tempo, just passing it around under little pressure.

The defence has yet to be tested.

Chiamaka Nnadozie was nowhere near it in the end. It's a well taken penalty. It's just what Germany needed and the one thing Nigeria didn't want to do was concede a second so early after conceding the first.

That's Sara Dabritz's third goal in three games. Germany have scored two goals within seven minutes.
