FT: England 3-0 Cameroon
England have now qualified for the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Cup in each of their five tournament appearances (1995, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019).
Pretty good going.

Jordan Nobbs
England midfielder on BBC One
All the Cameroon players just lost their heads today and they could have badly injured Steph Houghton today.
"The behaviour was wrong and that's the image of women's football that has gone out worldwide."
Extremely strong words from Phil Neville, speaking to BBC Sport. I'll drop in his full quotes in a few minutes.

England have got the job done in a really horrible and tense situation.
The referee completely lost control, she was woeful today and Cameroon were poor but England stayed disciplined and got the job done.
FT: England 3-0 Cameroon
They are showing a replay of that moment late on when Steph Houghton was fouled by Alexandra Takounda Engolo.
It gets worse every time. A simply horrific tackle.
Alex Greenwood deserves praise for the way she handled the situation. The Manchester United captain was calm and tried to take Cameroon captain Gabrielle Onguene away. She was screaming in Houghton's face.
"It was a stressful process today."
I think Arsenal and England midfielder Jordan Nobbs has just summed it up on BBC One.

I'm so glad the final whistle has been blown. We don't want to see any more injuries and I'm sick of talking about VAR.

I'm not sure where to start. This game really did have everything. Ultimately, if you take the emotion out of it then England were the better team and are through to face Norway.

Iain: What a disgrace f, externalrom Cameroon that is a sending off.
Tony: I'll be kind, Cameroon need quite a bit more international experience.
Paul: How can you look at video footage of that tackle and think it is only a yellow card?
The Cameroon players are shaking hands with the England players, though not very enthusiastically.
Coach Alain Djeumfa looks completely emotionless as he trudges onto the pitch. The England players look a little overwhelmed.
Lucy Staniforth has a smile on her face though. And why not? They are in the quarter-finals of a World Cup for the fourth tournament in a row!

A real mix of emotions from fans and players alike as the final whistle goes, in the 97th minute, in what was probably the most bizarre match I've ever seen.
Boos, cheers, complaints to the ref (still). A remarkable evening in Valenciennes.

It should have been a red card. If it's putting the player at risk of injury then its deemed reckless and a red card. I'm just glad Steph Houghton is OK.

I'm still not totally sure how good this England side are. Despite yet more lapses in concentration, they march onto the last eight with a fifth successive Women's World Cup win, including their 3/4th place play-off in 2015. It's a feat they have never achieved before.
One thing is for sure: that was a test of their discipline for which they deserve huge credit.
England 3-0 Cameroon
Phil Neville shakes his head as the whistle goes for full-time. What a shambles. A really, really awful ending to a game that has been full of drama.
In the end though, England are through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
England 3-0 Cameroon
Alexandra Takounda Engolo has got away with it. It's only a yellow. She's very, very lucky.
England 3-0 Cameroon
It's a red. Surely?

Phil Neville is absolutely livid at that tackle on Houghton. And then a couple of players from both sides pile in on the action as they shout at each other.
The referee seems to have no control over this at all.
The England captain seems to be fine.
England 3-0 Cameroon
Phil Neville is absolutely furious. Cameroon captain Gabrielle Onguene has come over and is screaming at Steph Houghton and the referee.
