As a former neighbour of Fran Kirby's parents in Reading, I'm well and truly behind the Lionesses tonight. Will make those years of hearing her kick a ball around in the garden at 7am worth it! Good luck ladies.

Toni Duggan cuts inside from the left and swings another dangerous cross in towards the back post.

It flies over Jill Scott's head but Nikita Parris keeps it in play. Her volley ends up bouncing off Scott and rolls out for a goalkick just a few yards to the right of the post.

Is it the miskick of magic from Ellen White or a dummy of dreams?

Whether intentional or not, she's helped the ball find Jill Scott in a perfect position, and what a fantastic start for the Lionesses.

The England fans behind the goal at the other end of the pitch are overjoyed!

Absolutely brilliant by England. They have started on the front foot and they go out wide because they know that's where Norway struggle. Lucy Bronze is like extra attacker! Ellen White will say that was a dummy but it's definitely not - she mis-kicked it.

It's a great finish by Jill Scott and a great start by England.

  10. 'Wonderful first time finish'published at 20:04 British Summer Time 27 June 2019

    Norway 0-1 England

    Emma Hayes
Chelsea Women manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is a great counter attack form England down the right. Lucy Bronze bursts into the box and even though Ellen White fluffs it, Jill Scott ran off the back and it's a wonderful first time finish.

It is so disappointing from Norway's perspective because they turned England over in their own half and ended up conceding.

    Jill Scott

    WHAT a start!!!

Right-back Lucy Bronze leaves the defender chasing shadows as she drives along the backline. She cuts it back to Ellen White, who completely misses the ball with an air kick.

It turns out to be a pretty useful dummy as Jill Scott is waiting behind and just rolls it into the bottom left corner.

That's a real positive start by England. I can understand why Ellen White was complaining. You can see it comes off a defender. It should have been an England corner.

    Norway 0-0 England

England have to eliminate the errors they have made in the turnover, and they have to build on the good things. If Ellen White gets in the right areas, she could be the difference.

An early ball in from Nikita Parris on the right. It's aimed towards Fran Kirby but comfortably cleared.

Demi Stokes whips it back in from the opposite side and Ellen White is appealing for a corner as it's clearly headed away by Maria Thorisdottir. A goal kick given...

This is England's toughest opponent so far at this World Cup. They have gathered some real momentum along the way and Norway have some real quality. I think they can cause England real problems.

We need a big performance from Fran Kirby.
