  3. 'Pogba doesn't see himself in United project'published at 13:01 British Summer Time 21 April 2019

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on Football Focus

It'll be important for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get the right players out.

I think they would be better off if they could move Paul Pogba out and free up some wages to bring in other players. It's not that he isn't a good player but I think the project United have is not the sort of project he sees himself in.

He's looking for the ready-made team where he can win trophies immediately, United aren't at that place at the moment.

Meanwhile, no one seems to want to win the race to finish as the 'best of the rest' this season.

A victory for Everton would see the Toffees jump to seventh and a potential Europa League spot, after Watford were the only team around them to win on Saturday.

West Ham and Leicester played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, while Wolves were held at home by relegation-threatened Brighton.

Manchester United have the chance to move into a Champions League spot and go level on points with third-placed Tottenham, at least for the short term.

A win against Everton would send Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side into fourth above Arsenal, who face Crystal Palace later.

Chelsea then host Burnley on Monday.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to Sky Sports about Romelu Lukaku starting against his old club: "Rom likes to play football, likes to prove he's a goalscorer, that he's in the team - we've got three big games this week and it's a chance for everyone to say I want to play against City and Chelsea.

"We have to perform as a team, attitude has been really good and in some games we have been a bit off form, some we haven't got what we deserved."

Jermaine Jenus feels Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appointment was "based on emotion"

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won 10 of his first 11 games and was appointed permanently in March, but has lost five of his past seven matches since.

Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas says the ex-United striker was not the right choice to take the job on a permanent basis and he though the decision was "emotional".

Asked on BBC Radio 5 Live if Solskjaer was the right appointment, Jenas said: "No. I felt it was an emotional decision and in any business it should be a thought-out logical decision for the long term.

"One of the things they need to get away from is 'the Manchester United way' and 'that's not the way they used to do it'. What Sir Alex Ferguson did was very unique and United have found it very difficult to replicate with some of the best managers in the world."

Goodison Park is basking in glorious sunshine and soaring temperatures - and the heat is on new Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to secure a place in the top four and Premier League football next season.

And he must do it against an Everton side who are unbeaten in their last three home games, all against top six opposition in Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Everton did not concede a goal in drawing with Liverpool and winning against Chelsea and the Gunners.

    Big test.

Cardiff City face Liverpool in a huge game later today, and defender Sean Morrison has been speaking to Football Focus: "We knew Tuesday [at Brighton] was a do or die game. For the boys to rally as they did I was hugely proud.

"Neil Warnock is just the man. He takes all the pressure off the boys and off you as a player. He is just a master of it.

"I've never seen the manager like he was after the Chelsea game. He was devastated and gutted about the effort we had put in to get a result. He had to calm himself down before he went and did the press interviews.

"Everything that has gone on this season has brought everyone closer together. We had the tragedy of Emiliano [Sala], we had a lot of injuries and it does bring 25-30 guys closer together, we are a family in there.

"Every game is going to be a pressure cooker and whichever team deals with it best will pick up results. We will keep fighting until the end."

Michael Keane replaces Phil Jagielka at the heart of defence, while Morgan Schneiderlin comes in for the suspended Andre Gomes.

Everton v Man Utd (13:30 BST)

    Conor McNamara
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

In their last game, Everton couldn't break down the Premier League's worst-performing defence. It was only Fulham's third clean sheet all season.

Now Everton take on a Manchester United side that have conceded in each of their last 10 games; United's longest run without a clean sheet in seven years.

Things got Messi for United in Barcelona on Tuesday. Now there is work to be done to ensure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets back into the Champions League next season.

Solskjaer certainly has happy memories of playing against Everton: he did not score more goals against any other Premier League side.

Everton's form was much improved before a defeat by already-relegated Fulham last week brought an end to a run of three successive wins.

Can they bounce back at the first attempt? Boss Marco Silva reckons so.

"They have worked like they normally do and it has been no different because we had a performance that was not good enough last week," he said.

"We didn't achieve the result we wanted, but the way we have worked during the week has been the normal way that we have been working since the first day of the season.

"Of course we have to react differently to the way we did in the last game, because to be honest that was not good enough for us."

Everton v Man Utd (13:30 BST)

    OleImage source, Reuters

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, unsurprisingly, says he would much rather still be in the competition.

United's 3-0 humbling at the Nou Camp - bowing out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage after a 4-0 aggregate defeat - was a fifth loss in their last seven matches in all competitions.

"It will probably give them a boost playing those games, that's what you want as a player," he said of top-four rivals Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea who all remain in European competitions.

"We would have loved a semi-final to play in but that's not the case. We've got to focus on the games we've got."

Manchester United's Champions League hopes came to an end in midweek when they were outclassed by Lionel Messi and co in Barcelona.

Will it give Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's side a boost in their bid for a top-four spot with just the Premier League to concentrate on? Or will it dent the players' morale and momentum?
