    Sunderland 2-0 Doncaster Rovers

Herbie Kane - who sounds like a character from one of my toddler's reading books - tries to put in some dangerous crosses from the Doncaster left.

Nobody can get a head on it for his side but he does manage to force a corner.

Nothing comes from it though as once again, Sunderland's back four get it clear.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 77 mins

Industrious and hard-working at present this performance from Sunderland.

  18. 'The result condemns seriously my work'published at 18:35 British Summer Time 19 April 2019

    FT: Leeds 1-2 Wigan

    Marcelo BielsaImage source, PA

At the top of the Championship, Leeds United's automatic promotion hopes were dented by losing to 10-man Wigan at Elland Road and boss Marcelo Bielsa acknowledged that his side had to win today.

Defeat - coupled with victory for Sheffield United - leaves Leeds third in the table, behind the Blades on goal difference with three games left.

“Any explanation that I could give would be meaningless," Bielsa told BBC Radio Leeds.

"It is not a game you could analyse, because you have a games like today’s that you don’t deserve to win – but you have to win.

“The result condemns seriously my work. If I look for reasons, I have no explanation that could justify a loss like today’s loss.

“This was a game that we had to win and it was a game that we could win… but we didn’t.”

  20. 'It's blow for everybody connected with the club'published at 18:32 British Summer Time 19 April 2019

    FT: Bolton 0-2 Aston Villa

    Bolton relegatedImage source, Reuters

One team who will be in League One next season are Bolton, whose two-season stay in the Championship came to an end at the University of Bolton Stadium as defeat by Aston Villa confirmed their relegation.

Trotters boss Phil Parkinson is hopeful that the club can bounce back stronger after being taken over earlier this week.

"It's blow for everybody connected with the club, but we've had a takeover this week, we've got new owners and hopefully the club can move forward in a positive fashion and come back strong next year," Parkinson told BBC Radio 5 live.

"It's been chaotic in my three years here. The first year we got promoted and then had an embargo, the second year we stayed up but were in a very chaotic situation, and it all got too much this year with so many off the pitch problems that it drained the life out of everybody.

"It's been a draining effect on everyone in the club, the new owner's come in and I had a brief chat with him today and he's got a great opportunity to build a club, because Bolton Wanderers is a fantastic club.

"There's so much work to be done, but it can come back stronger and better than before."

On his own future he added: "I'm relaxed about that, I've got promotion from League One before, but I need to sit down with my family in the coming weeks and sit down with the new owner and respect his wishes as well."
