    Sunderland 2-0 Doncaster Rovers

Aiden McGeady clearly fancies a goal bonus this Easter weekend.

Cuts inside from the left and has a go with his right foot, but over the bar it goes.

Charlie Wyke then forces a good low save out of Marko Marosi in Doncaster's goal but George Honeyman is flagged offside for the follow-up.

    Sunderland 2-0 Doncaster Rovers

Jon McLaughlin shows that some goalkeepers can be calm on the ball when called upon.

A very brave back pass sees him take the ball on his right foot inside his own area and he nonchalantly leaves a lunging John Marquis on the deck as he knocks it past him and clears.

Moments before, Alfie May nearly latched on to the end of a ball over the top but McLaughlin was off his line quickly to block it form going on target.

    Sunderland 2-0 Doncaster Rovers

Bryan Oviedo gets his legs going again in space down the left and tries his luck on goal.

Lovely daisy-cutter left-foot effort that goes across goal and hits the base of the post.

Away to safety much to Doncaster's relief.

    Sunderland 2-0 Doncaster Rovers

Alfie May's first spell on the ball isn't a memorable one for Doncaster as he tries to spray the ball wide right but only manages to send it out for a throw-in.

Sunderland again looking for a third goal with Aiden McGeady showing his trickery out on the left wing.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

And we're back at it on Wearside for the second half.

Doncaster Rovers have made a double substitution though as Alfie May and Ali Crawford replace James Coppinger and Ben Whiteman.

Sunderland unchanged for the time being.

Sheffield United were the first of the promotion-chasers in action today. And, after back-to-back draws had seemingly dented their hopes of a top-two finish, the Blades moved back into second in the Championship table by beating Nottingham Forest.

"It was a good performance, a positive result and obviously a big three points," Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"We deserved to win, people will talk about their red card but I'm delighted we've got the second goal.

"We have 82 points - that isn't done by just turning up, it's done by player performing and their attitude and everybody bringing it together.

"I thought the atmosphere was amazing and it drove the players on."

    • Bolton are relegated after a 2-0 home defeat against Aston Villa who strengthen their promotion chances with a ninth consecutive victory.
    • Leeds are stunned at home by lowly WIgan, surrendering a 1-0 lead against ten men to lose 2-1. The Latics are now five points clear of the drop zone as third-from-bottom Rotherham lost a 4-3 thriller against Swansea.
    • Sheffield United's 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest earlier in the day and Leeds' failure to get a point means the Blades remain in the top two on goal difference .
    • Middlesbrough go above Bristol City and into the final play-off spot with a 1-0 win over Stoke.
    • West Brom are six points off the top two with three games left after a 3-2 home win over Hull.

My word - what a feast of football we've had already today and we're not done even after this game.

Norwich City host Sheffield Wednesday at Carrow Road in our evening Championship game and the Canaries know a win will take them within three points of promotion.

In the meantime, Sunderland know a win here will take them back to third in League One and two points behind second-placed Barnsley with a game in hand.

  12. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 19 April 2019

    Sunderland 2-0 Doncaster Rovers

That is the break but only after Danny Andrew comes within inches of reducing the deficit for Doncaster.

He fires a left-foot free-kick against the right post and that effort had Jon McLaughlin at full stretch in the Sunderland goal.

The hosts are in control, through, thanks to goals from Lewis Morgan and Charlie Wyke.

Sunderland still rampant even after that second goal.

Bryan Oviedo again in acres of space wide left and his cross is met by a diving header from Charlie Wyke, but a relieved Marko Marosi can gather that with two hands.

Sunderland double their lead and it's looking a long way back for Doncaster now.

Charlie Wyke is the man to tap it home from just a yard out for his third goal in the past four matches.

It starts with a searching Aiden McGeady cross from the left which James Dunne gets to first before Marko Marosi in Doncaster's goal.

Falls kindly to Wyke who can just nudge it home into the empty net.
