After receiving his MBE, Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane was also asked about his comments in a recent interview that he'd like to be a kicker in the NFL.

Kane told BBC Sport: "Hopefully it's still a while away yet, I'm a huge NFL fan, and people always think about what they want to do after their career is over.

"I have one eye on it but I'm focused on football first. Hopefully, in 10 years or so we can start thinking about the NFL."

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini says he's "not surprised" at Declan Rice's performance in his England debut during the Euro 2020 qualifiers over the past week.

"I know Declan Rice and he never feels pressure, whether playing here or with England. He is a top player," he said.

Asked how good the 20-year-old can be, the Chilean added: "I think he must continue doing exactly what he is doing now. Work in the same way and have the same mentality. He will continue to improve."

    • Who do you want Solskjaer to sign?published at 13:32 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

Nick via text: Rabiot, Sancho, Koulibaly. Sign players that have plenty of years in them. We need to sort the Sanchez situation out too, he is on way too much for his performances and this is only going to make it harder to sign players and renew contracts.

Alex via text: Hate to be a negative nellie, but Ole is a yes man with very limited tactical acumen and nowhere near a top class manager. He'll flop early next year and the critics will be out again.

    • Racism has to be dealt with in right way - Kanepublished at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

Tottenham and England skipper Harry Kane was also asked about the racist chanting that blighted England's 5-1 win over Montenegro on Monday.

He said: "You could hear it when we were there. I thought our players dealt with it in such a good way and they did everything perfectly. We spoke about it afterwards in the changing room, and the most important thing for us as team-mates is to support them. They were focused on the pitch and did their jobs, and it's down to people in charge to take right action."

Asked if he would lead his players off the pitch if necessary, Kane added: "It's hard to say. I hope that never happens, it's something that will be down to the players if it happens again. Whatever they want to do, I'll back them. As for people in charge, it has to be dealt with in the right way. Football is a worldwide sport and seen by millions of people so it's important we do the right thing."

Richard Browne: As long as Woodward is there United will fail. Ole has already started falling under the same bus. They’re no way near the top teams.

Ian via text: Lots of praise for OGS today and that's fair enough, results have been good. Negative tactics or not, no one is mentioning that this is the same group Mourinho had. How much of it is players actually putting a shift in now Mourinho is not there?

Ahead of a trip to Anfield on Sunday, Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane has been enjoying a "special" day as he was awarded with an MBE at Buckingham Palace.

"It's something totally different," he told BBC Sport. "I've never been to the Palace before and to be part of it was special. It's a proud day for me and my family, and people who've helped me to get to this stage of my life. It was great to chat with the Duke of Cambridge.

"Sometimes you don't get to appreciate what you've done in your career, and it's quite surreal. When I'm done I'll take time to look back."

    • Hasenhuttl warns of gaming dangers with playerspublished at 13:01 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

Brighton v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

      Southampton

Some very interesting quotes from Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, who has compared the habit of spending excessive amounts of time playing video games to alcoholism and drug addiction.

The Austrian was speaking after an anonymous English Football League player revealed , externallengthy gaming sessions were threatening to ruin his career.

Hasenhuttl admitted to blocking hotel Wi-Fi during away trips in a bid to combat the potential problem and, having encountered similar issues at his former club RB Leipzig, feels footballers require protection. "I think it's something you have to force actively against and I will do this.

"I did it in my last club, we had also problems with players, they were playing until three o'clock in the morning before a game. You have to be active and to help protect them because it's not a small problem because if you are honest it's the same as alcoholism or getting addicted to drugs."

    • Different situation for Solskjaer - Hasenhuttlpublished at 12:50 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

Brighton v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

      Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment: “It’s not a surprise he is the new manager, he did a fantastic job. The wins he took with the team were fabulous and because of his history as a player at Man Utd, the fans love him. He showed that he can handle this job.

“There’s always pressure. The problem sometimes is that as a new manager you get hyped and it’s hard to stay at that level. Now it’s a different situation. To be permanent means you have to have success permanently with this club and they have a long way to go. He has the quality to do this job and I wish him all the best."

Earl Grey: Great news about Ole being given the full time job. They must now sign Mikey P, #olegunnarsolskjaer, external needs his wingmen. #MUFC, external only needs to look back at Mourinhos downfall once his wingman left him

Dr Paul: Next for MUFC - stay the course. Lots of exciting young talent in the pipeline. If you can get a lad like Sancho or a good young centre-half, then go for it. Otherwise, be patient and develop. Focus on a 5 year plan and don't get caught up too much on next season.

Former Manchester United first-team coach René Meulensteen on whether Mike Phelan, Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna should remain at the club after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's appointment: “Yes, I definitely think so.

"It’s obviously been a very clever move to bring Mike back because he understands the DNA that was in place for so many years.

"Obviously Michael Carrick was part of that for so many years as a player but obviously has some experience now with working as a first-time coach around those players. Kieran is a potentially good coach.

"They all have good qualities to bring to the table and that’s important and he understands that, so I’m sure he will keep that in place.”

Fresh from scoring for England during their 5-1 win over Montenegro on Monday, an interesting tale popped up last night about Harry Kane.

The Tottenham striker wants to be a kicker in the NFL once his career as a footballer is over.

He told ESPN: "The desire to play in the NFL is real. It's something that in 10 or 12 years I definitely want to try,"

Kane is also receiving his MBE at Buckingham Palace today. We should be hearing from him shortly.

Former Manchester United first-team coach René Meulensteen on the importance of a summer recruitment drive for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “It is very important. I’m sure that they’ve had plenty of talks over the last few weeks about this with Ed Woodward and maybe other members of the board to say, 'listen Ole, if we’re going to give you the job, what is your way forward?'

“'What is it we need to do as a club to back you and what are your priorities?' I think those meetings have happened and we have to wait over the summer, but it’s obviously crucial for the future of Manchester United.”

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says striker Danny Ings is back in training and in contention for the trip to Brighton after been injured in the game against Burnley on 2 February. The Saints are two points above the drop zone and three behind Brighton, who also have a game in hand.

Hasenhuttl said of Ings: "He's trained for two weeks now with first team. Last week we had friendly game and he had 45 minutes without problems so far. If he's an option for starting eleven, we will see, but I'm happy he's back in training."

    • What now for Man Utd technical director role?published at 11:34 Greenwich Mean Time 28 March 2019

      Simon Stone
      BBC Sport

There has been no word from Manchester United about when, or indeed, if a technical director will be appointed to work with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The view from a number of people with connections to United is that such a person must be appointed if United are to stand any chance of succeeding in the long-term.

That was certainly the opinion of Louis van Gaal when I spoke to him in Portugal last week and United indicated that was how they were thinking in the wake of Jose Mourinho's departure.

It will be interesting to find out if these plans are now on hold.

If you haven't read it yet, it's certainly worth reading Simon's interview with Van Gaal. It's a must-read.
