  1. 'Liverpool embarrassed Barcelona'published at 09:38 British Summer Time 8 May 2019

    Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

We've spoken about Liverpool performances from 20, 30, 40 years ago, but remember Tuesday, 7 May 2019, because it was one hell of a night.

How did they do it? Liverpool had belief, hunger, desire, attitude and a crowd that was willing them on from the very first second.

A lot of Liverpool players ran Barcelona ragged, they embarrassed them. Liverpool were too clever, it was just a staggering night.

Can't see Salah or Firmino getting back into this team!

    John, Cambridge

Married 3 weeks ago but my husband got all the tears last night (none on the wedding day), this was a different, I explained as I cried myself to sleep in my Liverpool scarf.

    Sian

Well thank you so much Liverpool! It now looks like we might have to play Ajax in the final. Liverpool Fan + Ajax Fan = A possible divorce

Loved the game last night Liverpool showed there passion and determination to win the game what a team Klopp has constructed just hope Spurs can draw some inspiration from that game and win against Ajax and what a final that will be if that is the case!

    Ricci, Spurs fan

Brilliant performance by Liverpool, not just for them but it was true English football. They battered Barcelona into submission.

  7. 'The reason you fell in love with football'published at 09:22 British Summer Time 8 May 2019

    Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona

    Phil Neville
England Women manager on BBC Breakfast

"Obviously I’m not a Liverpool supporter but last night was probably one of those moments where it’s the reason you fell in love with football," he said.

"The impossible dream. A team that was playing with inspiration, commitment, the crowd. That fourth goal for me was a special goal.

"As an England supporter, hopefully tonight Tottenham will go through and we can have two English teams in the Champions League final.

"The Premier League is the best league in the world at the moment and the Liverpool players proved that last night.

"I didn’t enjoy it, but I appreciated it."

Wendy: So much emotion - when the team stood in front of the KOP at the end of the game with everyone singing "You'll Never Walk Alone". What a game. Respect to all involved. I'm a MUFC fan but cried with joy after watching the game last night

John Wells: Are Barcelona the biggest bottlers in Champions League history? two years in a row, against Roma and now Liverpool

Hasan Anfield: The ball boy who gave the ball to Alexander Arnold should be given a free season ticket.

Some would argue PSG are on a par with them, John...

  11. 'We defended like schoolboys' - Suarezpublished at 09:07 British Summer Time 8 May 2019

    Barcelona

It was not a happy return for Liverpool old boy Luis Suarez.

he had a torrid time at his former stomping ground, where he was used to scoring goals, not watching so many go into his own net.

After the game, he had plenty to say about Barcelona's defence, or lack of.

But he and strike partner Lionel Messi weren't exactly up to much, either.

"We have to be ready for all the criticism that is going to rain down on us now," Suarez said.

"We are very sad, we are in a lot of pain.

"For their fourth goal we looked like schoolboys,

Dave: Its up there. Let’s not forget Barca also bottled it last season against Roma. And Barca themselves overturned a 4-0 reverse against PSG a couple of years ago

Josh Dunlop: It's not just the fact that Liverpool were 3 - 0 down... Salah, Firmino, Keita, Ox. All potential starters injured, Robbo going off after 45 mins. And don't forget Barca rested ALL 11 players at the weekend

Vivek Hariharan: Haven't slept a wink since I woke up at 12:30am to watch the match in India. But I've got enough energy and adrenaline to power through work today

Sure you're not the only Liverpool fan thinking the same this morning Vivek

Looks like it, George. This is the second time in recent years they've squandered a three-goal first-leg lead.

Messi is considered the GOAT by many people, myself included. Thou by those who don't, they generally ask "but could he do it on a cold, wet, windy night in stoke?". What I can tell you is that he can't in Liverpool.

    Stef, Northampton

I think even we 5000 to one Leicester fans will have to take our hat off to the Miracle on the Mersey. Amazing me duck.

    Robert Fox

Since 2011, Barca have reached one champions league final, the same as Chelsea and Dortmund and less than Liverpool. They've gone out after winning the first leg by 3 in the last 2 seasons. Have Barcelona forgotten how to win in Europe?

Alexander: I'm a rare, true neutral (glad that I am) in that I don't support any one team, despite loving football and playing a lot too. But even as a neutral I can't handle the emotion of last night. Feeling for Barca and the beautiful Messi.

Charlie Auckland: My favourite moment is knowing that after the game, in the silence of the Barcelona dressing room, Suarez and Coutinho just sat there together, pondering what just happened.

Denis Mulcahy: Always in life it is the unsung heroes, the lesser known people who do the most unbelievable, bravest, conscientious of tasks and don't give up. They are full of hope. That's why I think Origi and Wijnaldum should now always start until they become complacent

  20. 'Congratulations Liverpool'published at 08:43 British Summer Time 8 May 2019

    Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona

    Jermaine Jenas
Former Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I’ve heard a lot of excuses about teams not having their best players available at times this season, what Liverpool have done tonight shows the spirit in their team and the atmosphere that Klopp has created at the club is just extraordinary. Congratulations Liverpool, well deserved!
