  1. 'De Jong has so much confidence and technique'published at 22:33 British Summer Time 6 June 2019

    Netherlands 3-1 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It didn't happen in midfield for England. Fabian Delph is a decent player who grafts hard but he didn't create anything. Ross Barkley was better but if you want to play in the midfield at this level you have to want the ball and be comfortable on it.

The Dutch were controlled on the ball and Frenkie de Jong was picking it up and manipulating it everywhere and in areas that England did not want it. He has so much confidence and so much technique.

  3. 'We were punished for it'published at 22:32 British Summer Time 6 June 2019

Raheem Sterling speaking to Sky Sports: "We soaked up the pressure really well. Towards the end of the second half I thought we were the better team but we made some silly mistakes and were punished for it.

"One day VAR might help us but today it didn't. They had their pressing right on the night. We made a few mistakes and I thought we tried to play at times but it didn't work.

"The team was slightly altered today. A few players were missing that usually play. But players come in and do a job and that's what they did today. It was only Declan's [Rice] second start and he did well but it wasn't to be.

"We have still made progress to get to this stage but it is about kicking on and making that last step now."

  6. 'The Dutch were slick'published at 22:27 British Summer Time 6 June 2019

    Netherlands 3-1 England

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

The Dutch were in a different league tonight, they were slick and they played the ball better than England.

There will be questions over the team selection but I don't think it would have made much of a difference tonight. England were a threat from set pieces, but if you take that away, they didn't create enough.

"We made some silly mistakes," says Raheem Sterling with a lovely touch of understatement.

The Dutch fans celebrate as England rather guiltily trudge off. That was a big let down.

How do you rate the players individually? I can think of a few who won't come out of this well.

You can mark them out of 10 using our Player Rater tool here.

  10. FULL-TIMEpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 6 June 2019

It's Netherlands v Portugal in Sunday's final. England were well beaten, albeit after two howlers at the back in extra time...

  11. Postpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 6 June 2019

England's last shot on target was a Jadon Sancho header in the 54th minute.

I've just remembered there's a third-fourth play-off against the Swiss to come. And I'm working it.

  13. 'The Dutch have been the best side'published at 22:21 British Summer Time 6 June 2019

    Netherlands 3-1 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

I know John Stones has had a nightmare but the Dutch have been the best side if we are being honest.

Michael: Sat in Wembley stadium in November and England looked unbeatable against Croatia! Tonight they’ve looked a shambles.. what has happened??

David: And the whole of Portugal emits a sigh of relief. No English fans around for the weekend.

Nick: Not often you see one player let his team down this badly.

England wouldn't have conceded those two goals under a certain pint-of-wine swigging connoisseur.

They wouldn't have got to these finals, admittedly.

    Netherlands 3-1 England

Plenty of England fans have left the building. Harry Kane has a shot deflected away for a corner.

The two goals England have conceded in extra time belong in a horror film.

  18. 'Multiple mistakes'published at 22:17 British Summer Time 6 June 2019

    Netherlands 3-1 England

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 live

What are you doing John Stones? He has made multiple mistakes this evening and I do not blame Ross Barkley because it's a poor pass.

Quincy Promes has an open goal and the Netherlands are going through.

  19. goal

GOAL - Netherlands 3-1 Englandpublished at 114 mins

    Quincy Promes

A dog's dog's dinner of a goal! That is awful.

England have a throw in, they go back to John Stones, who again plays a dreadful ball towards Ross Barkley on the edge of his own area. Barkley's pass is equally as bad, straight to Memphis Depay, who squares it past Jordan Pickford to give Quincy Promes a tap-in.

Mark: Feel like TAA is the most missed England player tonight from the “Madrid 7”

Alex: Southgate needs to get a few more sports psychologists in for this side.

John: If England keep picking Walker & Stones they've no hope of ever reaching a tournament final
