    Arsenal 2-1 Burnley

    Arsenal

Arsenal defender: David Luiz, speaking to Match of the Day: I feel happy for everybody with the result. They know how to fight, how to score, we had great moments where we had to fight, to counter attack and to defend. It is a new challenge for me. I am enjoying the new fans, the new players, since I joined they have been very welcoming.

On playing against Ashley Barnes: Barnes is a great player, he never gives up. There is a respect there for each other because we are both trying to do our job. I will always try to do my best.

Jon Evans: Crazy to see people criticising Smith as AVFC manager. Only two games in, we weren't bad against Spurs and other than two errors been the better team today. The team will get better over the season, we are only two games in. Those complaining probably expect top four...

Newcastle can't string 5 passes together, can't hold the ball up up front, little pace, zero creativity and Schar and Lascelles look like shells of the players from last season. Team look completely demoralised. I think relegation beckons.

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

After that horror show of a start, Villa have recovered well. But they're still trailing by two goals... the Premier League is a harsh, harsh world.

A goal for the hosts before half-time could prove pivotal... Trezeguet (not David) has a go in the dying embers of the first half, but Aaron Ramsdale saves.

    Brighton 0-0 West Ham

Declan Rice managed to have the Hammers' first effort just before the break. That's all there is to say about that.

Trossard will no doubt still be thinking about the disallowed goal.

    Sadio Mane

Had to be one of the former Saints players, didn't it?

Sadio Mane puts Liverpool ahead against his former side with an absolute beauty.

The forward is not marked tightly enough as he collects James Milner's pass, allowing him to turn and fire a curling effort into the far corner.

    Liverpool have barely deserved it.

McGinn isn't scared of having a pop from distance (remember that goal against Sheffield Wednesday last year?) but this speculative effort goes into the side-netting.

  15. GOOD SAVE!published at 15:42 British Summer Time 17 August 2019

    Everton 1-0 Watford

Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford once again comes to the rescue of his side with a good save to keep out Etienne Capoue's 20-yard strike.

The Hornets could do with a picking up at least a point after last week's thumping.

At the other end, Richarlison should have done better with a header from 12 yards out from Gylfi Sigurdsson's delivery.

Dennis Ethan: Pukki in the volley, easily the goal of the season so far.

David Jarvis: Newcastle might as well announce relegation now. Absolutely embarrassing.

Villa are in need of Management and Smith is out of his depth. Poor!

  17. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 17 August 2019

    Aston Villa 0-2 Bournemouth

Wesley's fuse is not one I'd want to light. A big man.

The Villa striker loses his temper with Cherries midfielder Phil Billing, over what I'm not too sure.

Wesley gets a ticking off and is told to cool off by ref Martin Atkinson, who then has to reprimand Billing for a sliding challenge. Yellow card.

Oooh! And then moments later the Dane slides in on Jack Grealish. Not sure Billing got the ball... but he escapes punishment and keeps his place on the pitch.

Fabian Schar, the third highest scorer for Newcastle last season, heads Jonjo Shelvey's free-kick ball towards goal but former Magpies keeper Tim Krul just about clings on.

Will Steve Bruce make tactical changes at the break?

    Teemu Pukki (32 mins)

    Quite an extraordinary strike.

Finn Teemu Pukki had twice tested Martin Dubravka with fairly tame close-range efforts, earlier on.

So the brightest of all Canaries thought, "let's change tactics and hit the living daylights out of the ball with my next strike".

That is precisely what Pukki does with a volley from 15 yards that flies past the reach of a desperate Dubravka.
