David Luiz steps up to take the free kick but sends it high and wide of goal.

That will most likely be that.

    Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal

Fabinho goes in the book for a foul and Arsenal have a free kick some 30 yards from goal. Might be the last chance of the game..

The lack of a clean sheet will no doubt annoy Jurgen Klopp. They've conceded in every game they've played so far this season. A slight blemish on the result today but something Klopp will be keen to address.

Time is almost up at Anfield and it feels like both sides have accepted the result. Neither really pushing for another goal.

Arsenal have upped their game a bit. Two substitutions and they are back to playing as well as they were in the first half.

Lacazette with 10 mins to go.... why not sooner?

    Ian

Need to have patience with this Arsenal side. Playing a Liverpool team who 5 years ago would be in a very similar situation to Arsenal right now. Patience required. It'll come.

  6. VAR

VAR is checking a possible penalty for Arsenal. There's a suggestion there may have been a handball as Alexandre Lacazette challenged for possession.

Its a quick check though and the decision is no penalty.

Anukram Adhikary: If I were Lacazette I’d leave. If scoring goals doesn’t get me the opportunity to start, what more can I possibly do?

Why bother buying players like Lacazette if you don't play them in the big games.

A bit slack at the back there from Liverpool. A shame because they have been playing so well. The shot from Lucas Torreira gave the goalkeeper no chance. Maybe Arsenal think they can get something out of this.

  9. goal

GOAL - Liverpool 3-1 Arsenalpublished at 84 mins

    Lucas Torreira

A consolation? Or the start of a fight back...?

I mean, its a consolation isn't it with six minutes to go but it gives the away fans something to cheer as Lucas Torreira pounces on a loose ball inside the area before smashing a low shot into the bottom corner.

Roberto Firmino turns and goes down inside the area under pressure from Granit Xhaka. Referee Anthony Taylor says no penalty and the appeals from the Liverpool fans were half-hearted.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 81 mins

    Liverpool 3-0 Arsenal

A change for Arsenal as Alexandre Lacazette comes on for Joe Willock. A mistake not starting the forward? Hindsight and all that...

Liverpool players - whatever position they find themselves in, they look comfortable even if they are out of place. They look comfortable and they still want the ball.

Alex: Let's get some perspective with this Arsenal performance. No dedicated RB, new CB to integrate. Missing first choice LB. 50% of back four is 1st choice. Time & patience needed.

Steve Hodgson: How opinions change. At the end of the window everyone said Aresnal were the team who had done the best business. After one poor performance against the European champions everyone is slamming the manager.

  15. 'Great defending from Milner'published at 19:05 British Summer Time 24 August 2019

Great awareness and defending from James Milner. He tracked him all the way back. He always looks not where the danger is but what could happen. He has made that last ditch attempt to clear the ball and it was brilliant.

  16. Postpublished at 75 mins

    Liverpool 3-0 Arsenal

Feel for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He's spent a lot of this game with his back to the Liverpool goal watching what is going on at the other end of the pitch.

He gets the chance to stretch his legs now, though, and breaks forward with two players in support. He slides a pass through the defence for Nicolas Pepe and then continues his run into the box to try and meet the return pass but James Milner heads behind.

Ed O'Toole: Liverpool are so superior in every department that this could get embarrassing for Arsenal.

Ed Morris: There's always next year Arsenal.

Steve Edwards: There are 2 teams in this league. Sorry. Not sorry.

Before his substitution, Gini Wijnaldum completed 57 of his 58 passes in this game - more than any other player while he was on the field. A near impeccable display.

Mo Salah embarks on another powerful, direct run into the Arsenal box. He thinks about going for goal but instead opts to try and tee up Sadio Mane but there's too many Arsenal players in the way and the visitors survive that one.

If you spend £150 million in the summer and do not improve a really poor defence, then you must ask questions of the manager. Poor decision making.
