On Salah chance: That’s a chance gone. I don’t think he knew much about it because it has ricocheted off him and just gone wide. Burnley will think they can’t afford to give any space to Salah.

If Aymeric Laporte is out for a while with the injury he suffered during Manchester City's win over Brighton this afternoon, it does give manager Pep Guardiola a problem.

City did not buy a replacement for Vincent Kompany in the summer and John Stones has also been missing, so, potentially, only Nicolas Otamendi could be fit after the international break.

Guardiola put Fernandinho in the centre-back position today and the Brazilian may end up being the long-term answer.

"He is a holding midfielder, everyone knows it, me included but I think he has the conditions to play in that position," said the City boss.

"He is intelligent, fast, strong in the headers and in the build-up. He also has the quality to see what happens in front. He can play in both positions."

We’ve not seen much of Salah apart from hitting the post. When he does get in those positions he is dangerous but he is not getting much space.

What a pass! Jordan Henderson reacts superbly to a loose ball to flick it first time into the path of Mo Salah. The forward is through but Nick Pope is quick off his line and blocks the first shot before the rebound is deflected wide.

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn: "We're disappointed to say the least. There’s not much we’re allowed to say other than we’ve seen the replay (of Villa's late disallowed goal) and it speaks for itself. We’ve been robbed of a point that we deserved but we have to pick ourselves up.”

Burnley are stopping the full backs getting forward very well and they’re dangerous from free kicks.

Burnley packing the middle but they are managing Liverpool's fullbacks better than Arsenal did last-time out. Apart from one or two moments we haven't seen too much threat from Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Excellent stuff from Burnley at the moment. They are chasing after every ball and not giving Liverpool a moment's rest. Jurgen Klopp's side look a little uncomfortable with this pressure from the hosts.

    Roy HodgsonImage source, PA Media

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "It's unfortunate in some ways for us that it's all going to centre around the controversy at the end. I think it was a very good performance from our side, we could have been way out of sight before that controversial situation.

"We have given two very good performances and six points from two games is really worth its weight in gold."

On Aston Villa's disallowed goal: "We think we’ve thrown this away in the last minute and are going to lose two points. Lucky for us the referee had made his decision before the ball had gone in the net and that was to give the free kick. I don’t think we need to apologise at all for the fact that we won the game.

"If you want to win games you have establish some sort of domination and we certainly did that today and it gave us a win. We know now what we need to do to get more points."

Great work by Dwight McNeil as he speeds off down the left. He's got Trent Alexander-Arnold for company but the Burnley man bides his time before hitting a cross off the Liverpool full-back and out for a corner.

Virgil Van Dijk unconvincingly heads awkwardly over his own bar to give Burnley another chance from the corner flag but this time Liverpool clean up.

    Final Score

I’m in the West Ham press conference room. Manuel Pellegrini has just been in - I’ve rarely seen him so happy and chatty! He was effusive about his side’s outstanding performance which should have been rewarded by more goals.

We are waiting for Daniel Farke to come in now. Expecting him to be concerned by the injury to German defender Christoph Zimmermann, who had only just returned from a knee injury, and the lack of fit centre halves with Timm Klose out long term and Grant Hanley out with a groin problem.

Finally a bit of time to breathe after that lively start. Liverpool are in possession but Burnley are quick to close them down, not giving them enough time on the ball to plan their attacks.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini: "I think it was a massive performance as we played against a very good team who had played well against Chelsea and Newcastle. Tim Krul was their best player on the pitch. He played an unbelievable game.

"We didn’t start the game well, the first 15 minutes they had the ball and we couldn’t recover it but they still didn’t create chances. After that we recovered and showed what we could do.

"Sebastien Haller is a complete player. He scores goals but works a lot for the team as well. He will continue improving in every game."

On Javier Hernandez: "Javier was not in the squad because he is coming back from an injury. In 48 hours more the window will be closed. If he stays he will be an important player for us."
