Montymadman: A bizarre lucky Liverpool goal again. When the luck is with you.....

Amazing how Liverpool get slice of luck every game. Unbelievable. Happens without fail every match.

Ashley Barnes swipes a shot wide from outside the box after good work by Jack Cork. It may not have been on target again but this is better from Burnley, who have regrouped after being hit by those two Liverpool goals.

Premier league best in the world? You quite sure?! Manchester City and Liverpool aside the standard is absolutely abysmal.

Once again, long balls cause the Liverpool defence problems as Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes combine to win a punt forward before Barnes smashes over.

Crystal Palace winger Jeffrey Schlupp: "They made it hard for us but we got the three points and the win that we deserved. Everyone knows this place is a fortress for us. We want our strikers to be in among the goals every game and I’m hoping Jordan Ayew scores many more."

On Aston Villa's disallowed goal: "There was a bit of confusion, I was sitting on the bench. We’ve seen it back and it looked like a dive and I think the referee has got the decision right."

Burnley have been absolutely tremendous going forward and making up ground. But Liverpool have taken advantage and it’s 2-0.

  11. goal

GOAL - Burnley 0-2 Liverpoolpublished at 37 mins

    Sadio Mane

    No fluke about this one!

Terrible defending by Ben Mee as he undercooks a pass and Roberto Firmino is on it in a flash. He leads a three against two charge before finding Sadio Mane, who coolly slots into the far corner.

Having looked completely in this one, Burnley have it all to do now.

That’s amazing. The goalkeeper actually thought it was going to go over the top for a corner. The keeper is off his line backpedalling. It might be looking for Salah but it’s taken a deflection and ended up in the net.

  13. 'A horrible day all round'published at 18:04 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

    West Ham 2-0 Norwich

    Jacqui Oatley
    Final Score

Daniel Farke has just the left the press conference room. You could almost see the steam coming out of his ears.

Norwich never recovered from that decision, and they were not helped by having to bring on a midfielder, Ibrahim Amadou, to fill in at centre-half as Norwich have an injury crisis. A horrible day all round for the Premier League newcomers.

    Chris Wood OG

Breakthrough! But did Trent Alexander-Arnold mean it?

The fullback hits the ball into the box, it looks like he is aiming for the back stick but it hits Chris Wood, loops over Nick Pope and lands in the back of the net.

    What a bizarre goal!

    Burnley 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool have certainly not looked comfortably with long ball from the back put into their defence.

The hosts hit a quick free kick to try and catch the Reds' backline out but, fortunately for the visitors, Virgil van Dijk was alert to the danger.

What a great clearance. What a ball in as well. Trent Alexander-Arnold was wonderful in his execution getting the ball over the crossbar rather than giving away a goal.

  17. 'I’m a friend of VAR but on this day it didn’t work'published at 17:59 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

    FT: West Ham 2-0 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich manager speaking to Match of the Day: "At this level small details cost.

"This is a game where VAR didn’t work. There was a nasty tackle against my centre-back (Christoph Zimmermann) and it wasn’t even given as a free-kick. Then a few mins later my centre-back wasn’t able to spring back and block the cross (for West Ham's first goal). My centre-back is now in hospital. My feeling was this made the difference.

"I’m not claiming for red cards, it is up to the VAR to judge it. The only thing I say is that my centre-back is in hospital and the other player is on the shoulders of the West Ham goalscorer.

"I’m a friend of VAR but on this day it didn’t work"

On Christoph Zimmermann's injury: "Judging by our luck he will be out for the whole season, but we have to wait for the scans first."

    Burnley 0-0 Liverpool

Joel Matip plays Burnley onside and it almost proves costly as Ashley Barnes hooks the ball wide to Aaron Lennon and then charges into the box to try and meet the return pass but Trent Alexander-Arnold gets to it first.

Burnley have certainly had chances despite all of Liverpool's possession.

Jordan Henderson puts a cross into a packed Burnley area from the right. It is cleared but Liverpool pick up the ball and start an attack again.

  20. 'Nobody can see why he hasn't given the goal'published at 17:55 British Summer Time 31 August 2019

FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith speaking to BBC Sport: "Palace have got good players and playing against them when they have a numerical advantage is a challenge. We kept going until the end and in my opinion got a good goal. I'm not sure any of us know why the referee has given the decision.

"We’ve all looked at it back and nobody can see why he hasn’t given the goal and given the free kick but we have to take it on the chin."

On Trezeguet's red card: "I thought it was a poor challenge and one on a yellow you shouldn’t be making."
