Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, speaking at this afternoon's press conference: "I have to take a few difficult decisions about who should be in the 18 and who should be in the starting XI.

“I think a lot of players deserve to be in this squad, and there are still one or two positions where I am not completely sure, but in the end, everybody knows their chance will come.

“Che Adams had the big advantage that he was here from the beginning of pre-season and that helps him a lot. For Moussa [Djenepo], it is a little bit more difficult and it will take time to bring him into the squad.

“He has shown in the first two weeks he has a lot of skills that can help us. For the tactical skills, I think he needs more automatism, but he is open minded and very positive. He’s a good character and I like him."

Another done deal but not a transfer...

Brighton and American Express have extended their long-term sponsorship partnership, making it the most valuable in the club's history.

Hopefully this one was a bit more obscure! It is the one and only Nikica Jelavic, who made the move to Everton from Rangers on deadline day in January 2012.

Sadly, that's the last of our "guess the transfer deadline day signings". You all did a great job!

Terence Ford - Back of the Nest Podcast: Roy Hodgson says Crystal Palace have completed this transfer business for the summer window. On the one side of the coin, this means that Wilfried Zaha stays for the time being, but on the other side, the squad looks unbalanced.

Steve Parish and Director of Football Dougie Freedman have had ample time to find a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, instead, we are now an injury at full-back away from a crisis.

Furthermore, with the only change to the front line from last season the departure of loanee Michy Batshuayi, the team looks weaker in defence and in attack.

In signing a centre back and two central midfielders arguably, we have strengthened in the only areas that did not need strengthening.

Former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku becomes the third most expensive signing by a Serie A club following his £74m move to Inter Milan.

"Enthusiasm for Marcos Rojo potentially arriving as the central defender Marco Silva earmarked as a priority hasn’t exactly been overwhelming, not least because opportunities to secure targets who aren’t as injury prone as the Argentinian have failed to materialise.

"At it stands, it appears Everton have left themselves with too much to do in such little time. It’s disappointing as there appears to be a chance to capitalise on the malaise and struggles of clubs who finished above the Blues last season.

"There’s a time for calm and a time for panic - I think Everton, or at least Evertonians, have just crossed over to the latter.

"Director of football Marcel Brands has been lauded for his work at the club over the last year with recruitment. Let’s hope the suavely coifed Dutchman has one more trick up his sleeve."

Aston Villa

Aston Villa and Birkir Bjarnason have mutually agreed to the termination of his contract.

The Icelandic international made 54 appearances and scored six goals after joining from FC Basel in January 2017.
