The Reds defence is having to keep its wits about it. Sheffield United look to release Oliver McBurnie in the box, but Virgil van Dijk is alert to intercept. He then has to repeat the trick to prevent Callum Robinson getting a sniff soon after.

Sloppy from Fabinho. Liverpool are probing, seeking an opening with a series of square balls in the home half, but the Brazilian puts way too much on his pass to Trent Alexander-Arnold and the ball skips out of play.

Early pressure from Liverpool, with Firmino just unable to get the ball down to get a shot away. The clearance sets Sheffield United off on another counter-attack, which brings them a corner. But the set-piece comes to nothing as Liverpool head clear.

The first goal is going to be vital in this game. You would think Liverpool will be the ones to get it but you just don't know. Liverpool need to move the ball more quickly, the forwards are not moving well up front, they need to work on that.

They have four men in the box, one of which - Mane - is found by Roberto Firmino, but somehow contrives to shoot against the post. The ball ricochets to Firmino, but before he can pull the trigger, a man slides in to whip the ball away for a corner.

Best chance of the game so far, by a mile. Liverpool have still yet to properly hit the target though.

Shots sliced, passes over-hit, crosses swung into the stand. This is not the Liverpool we've seen win six out of six so far.

Chance. leaps like a salmon in the box but he can't connect properly with the pinpoint cross from Enda Stevens. His glanced header sails wide.

Soon after, down the other end, Georginio Wijnaldum swings his boot through the ball, but only chips it into the stand behind the goal.
