  3. Dons players fail to take their opportunitiespublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    FT: St Mirren 1-0 Aberdeen

McInnes changed up his team after Thursday's loss in Rijeka, but wanted to see more from some of those he brought in.

"When you try and freshen the team up sometimes after an away European game, you’re hoping you can get that freshness and impetus from the ones who come in," he said.

"One or two maybe a looked a bit sluggish, like they needed the game, which goes against what you’re trying to do. But you’re trying to keep a squad happy and give everybody the opportunity, and I think one or two never quite took their opportunity. Second-half, we were relentless with our work, but it wasn’t to be."

  4. Cosgrove a doubt for Rijeka deciderpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    FT: St Mirren 1-0 Aberdeen

That was Derek McInnes' first loss to St Mirren as Aberdeen manager - a run of 19 games.

More concerning news for the Dons at full-time, with Sam Cosgrove, who sat out the defeat due to injury, also a doubt for Thursday's Europa League decider against Rijeka.

Aberdeen trail 2-0 from the first leg in Croatia.

"I don’t know yet, we’ll just need to see how that hamstring settles," McInnes said of the striker, who has scored eight goals in six outings this term.

"We’ll get him scanned tomorrow. Sam’s been in brilliant form for us but there are other opportunities for people to come in and do a job for us."

  7. 'Flynn can get his hand out of the way' - McInnespublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    FT: St Mirren 1-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes reckons his team should have had a penalty when Ryan Hedges' cross struck the arm of Ryan Flynn.

"I think it was a penalty with last year’s rules and I think it was even more of a penalty with the rules we’ve been informed with season," he told BBC Radio Scotland.

"It could be a big decision in the game.We created some good opportunities, but sometimes you do need a bit of a break, and I still think it was a penalty kick. I think Ryan Flynn can get his hand out of the way, and it seems to me as if it’s clearly struck his hand, and I think it’s avoidable from his point of view."

With the domination Aberdeen had today, if it isn't going to come from the wide areas with the conditions, then you're looking for one of the central midfielders to really dictate pace. If a team is well structured, you have to move the ball quick, quick, quick. They just didn't do that today. It was just an odd performance from Aberdeen and I think they will get better.

  9. 'If we got away with one, then great' - Goodwinpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    FT: St Mirren 1-0 Aberdeen

St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin hadn't seen the penalty incident when he spoke to Chick.

"There was a big claim for it and it's a difficult one with the conditions and everything," he said. "If you're telling me that you watched it back and it was a penalty and we got away with one, then great.

"I'm sure Derek [McInnes] will be disappointed but Aberdeen are a terrific side and are still involved in Europe next week. We wish them well. I'm just glad we were able to hang on and get all three points."

  10. What will McInnes say on penalty shout?published at 17:18 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    FT: St Mirren 1-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen were denied what looked to be a legitimate penalty when Ryan Hedges' cross struck the arm of Ryan Flynn. Our man in Paisley, Chick Young, has just spotted Derek McInnes heading for Steven MacLean's room. We'll hear from the Dons boss shortly.

  11. 'New faces have added quality' - Goodwinpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    St Mirren 1-0 Aberdeen

St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin on BBC Radio Scotland, after a starting XI featuring six new signings topple Aberdeen: "We are making progress; I think you can see that. The players are starting to get to grips with what we're asking them to do.

"We needed players in and it didn't quite happen as quick as we would have liked but the new faces have come in and added quality. The pleasing thing for me is that they're taking on board what I'm asking them to do in training."

Kyle McAllister is effective on the counterattack but came on and slotted into a really diligent shape. You could see that St Mirren were trying to get in behind Greg Leigh down the left and they did - that's where the goal came from. St Mirren were really disciplined. When you're putting time in on the training field, there's nothing better than seeing the rewards of that hard work on the pitch, and the players think, 'right, this is working', they like and trust what the manager is doing.

  13. 'The work rate was why we won' - Goodwinpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    FT: St Mirren 1-0 Aberdeen

St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin on BBC Radio Scotland: "The players put a lot of effort and commitment into that. It wasn't pretty at times. No getting away from that.

"We want to do better on the ball but the shape, organisation and the work rate of the players was why we won today."

    Quote Message

I think it's inevitable that Celtic and Rangers are going to increase the gap between them and the rest this season. Rangers are definitely better - trying to keep up with Rangers, for Aberdeen, is going to be an almost impossible task.

  16. The numbers from Ibroxpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    FT: Rangers 6-1 Hibernian

The stats show Rangers managed a whopping 34 shots this afternoon, 19 of which were on target.

Ofir Marciano made some excellent saves, but with Sean Mackie sent off, it proved a long and chastening second half for Hibs.

  17. FULL-TIME St Mirren 1-0 Aberdeenpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

What a win for St Mirren and Jim Goodwin!

They had their backs to the wall for much of the afternoon, but Ilkay Durmus' well-taken first-half strike has sent Aberdeen back up the road empty-handed.

The Dons had a strong shout for a second-half penalty turned down when Ryan Hedges' cross struck the outstretched arm of Ryan Flynn, but despite a glut of possession and territory, the visitors created few chances.

Lewis Ferguson's header - excellently tipped over by Vaclav Hladky - and Niall McGinn's close-range strike off the post were as close as they came.

  18. FULL-TIME Rangers 6-1 Hibernianpublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

A thunderous win for Rangers and Steven Gerrard, albeit four of their goals came when Hibernian were down to 10 men.

Jermain Defoe's double gave them a commanding early lead, but Daryl Horgan clawed one back for Hibs before the interval.

Sean Mackie was shown a second yellow card 10 minutes into the second half, and from that point on, it was all Rangers.

Defoe completed his hat-trick - his first as a Rangers player - Alfredo Morelos came off the bench to nab a brace, taking his season's tally to seven goals in as many games, and Sheyi Ojo's deflected effort rounded off the hammering in the dying minutes.

    Sheyi Ojo

This is a proper, proper scudding. With virtually the final kick of the ball, Sheyi Ojo's deflected shot beats Ofir Marciano. That's full-time at Ibrox, Rangers dishing out an absolute thrashing to 10-man Hibs.

  20. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    St Mirren 1-0 Aberdeen

Niall McGinn comes excruciatingly close to levelling the score in the dying moments. A cross swung in from Andrew Considine found the Northern Irish winger at the back post with all the time and space to fire a shot towards goal, but it smashes off the near post.
