  2. 'Game over'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 7 September 2019

    England 1-0 Bulgaria

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

What is this all about? Bulgaria weathered the storm and have done okay and then that. Why are they taking a short goal-kick when there are four England players waiting for it? That is game over for me.

GOAL - England 1-0 Bulgariapublished at 24 mins

    Harry Kane

    Oh deary me.

An absolute horror show from Bulgaria.

England are pushed up high and the opposition are trying to play it out from the back.

Goalkeeper Plamen Iliev tries to find his left back, but passes it straight to Raheem Sterling on the right edge of the box, he looks up and finds Harry Kane to sweep in the opener from a couple of yards out.

    A gift.

Josh Earl: If any team sits back so deep, regardless of their quality, it can be extremely difficult to break down. It took Belgium a 43rd minute penalty to avoid going in 0-0 at half time with San Marino yesterday!

  5. CLOSE!published at 23 mins

    England 0-0 Bulgaria

Frustrating game for Marcus Rashford so far.

He had a go from way out and smashes it over.

    Wasted.

  6. 'Poor run from Kane'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 7 September 2019

    England 0-0 Bulgaria

A poor run from Harry Kane. He didn't need to move that early.

    Phil McNulty

Bulgaria all set up for a war of attrition here but just one or two little dangers signs for England as well. A very, very subdued start.

That is the first touch I can remember Harry Kane having in the game and he's offside.

  9. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 19 mins

    England 0-0 Bulgaria

    Superb goal.

Ross Barkley launching a pass to the right for Raheem Sterling, who takes a touch and plays in Harry Kane on goal to finish.

Won't stand, the England skipper is two yards off.

Don't need VAR for that one.

    England 0-0 Bulgaria

    Chris Sutton
Premier League winner with Blackburn on BBC Radio 5 live

I'd have liked to have seen Maddison given a go today. He has been the best English midfielder so far this season in the Premier League.

Beautiful from Raheem Sterling, jinking in between two defenders and breaking away to the edge of the box, but Kristiyan Malinov makes excellent challenge from behind to pinch the ball away.

Christoff Robbins Why would you leave Alexander-Arnold, currently the best right back in Europe, on the bench?

Keith Chapman: Good line-up but unsure why Barkley is playing. Don't see what he's done recently that makes him stand out unlike Mount and Sancho!

I'm not sure Rose meant to pick out Henderson there. it's a decent strike but doesn't trouble the goalkeeper.

  14. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    England 0-0 Bulgaria

    Hendersonnnnnnn!

What a hit from the Liverpool skipper, flush on the volley from Danny Rose's cross around 30 yards out.

On the initial angle it looks to be inches away from the top corner, on the replay from behind the goal you can see it is a fair few yards wide.

Kieran Trippier has Joao Felix playing in front of him at his club, today he has Raheem Sterling.

    Not bad, eh?

England have to stretch this team. When we go wide and one on one, Bulgaria can't deal with our players.

Rose ahead of Chilwell and Trippier ahead of Alexander-Arnold - there are a lot of borderline calls in this England team selection.

  19. Postpublished at 9 mins

    England 0-0 Bulgaria

Ross Barkley has made a decent start, played some nice defence-splitting passes.

He finds Danny Rose bombing down the left, but the Tottenham man's poor touch means the Bulgarian defenders can reshape in time for the cross.

Harsh comments on Rashford. He creates a lot of space with his movement and has a more than decent finish. Happy to see him and Sterling up front with Kane.
