  • Republic needed win to secure top-two spot in group

  1. 'The win is here for the taking'published at 63 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

    Emlyn Begley
BBC Sport at the Aviva Stadium

How brave will Mick McCarthy be with his changes? He's got the pacy Callum Robinson on the bench.

I can't emphasise this enough, the win is here for the taking. Can the Irish take it?

  2. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Ciaran Clark has been a handful from set pieces since his introduction at the start of the second half. Conor Hourihane's corner from the right is a bit behind the centre-half and he can only steer a header over the bar.

  3. Postpublished at 60 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Some good play from David McGoldrick, running at the away defence, forces a corner. The noise levels rise again...

  4. Postpublished at 58 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Matt Doherty skips past his man and spreads play from right flank to left, James McClean plays a one-two with Conor Hourihane, but McClean's low cross from the left, 25 yards from goal, is a disappointing one and the danger is easily cleared. A good position, but not capitalised on.

    Gibraltar 0-3 Switzerland

Switzerland are qualifying in style. Christian Fassnacht has added a third in Gibraltar. Euro 2020 awaits for the Swiss.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

The home fans are furious at Glenn Whelan's booking as cries of 'Whelo, Whelo' fill the Dublin air.

But to be fair he did give a knowing shake of his head, it was reckless.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:00 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2019

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Glenn Whelan has been close to a booking for some time, and now he's got that yellow. A nasty, ugly-looking two-footed lunge. He's lucky to only get a yellow.

  8. Switzerland double their leadpublished at 20:58 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2019

    Gibraltar 0-2 Switzerland

Switzerland are going to Euro 2020. Ruben Vargas has added a second for them away in Gibraltar.

Who will join them from Group D? If it stays a draw or the visitors win in Dublin, it will be Denmark, if the hosts win then it will be them.

  9. Postpublished at 52 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

A much better start to the half for Mick McCarthy's side. Denmark were on the back foot then.

  10. Suarez puts Uruguay back aheadpublished at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2019

    Argentina 1-2 Uruguay

Argentina were level for just six minutes before Luis Suarez put Uruguay back in front. Less than 20 minutes left in Tel Aviv. Two-one now.

  11. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

BBC Sport at the Aviva Stadium

The danger was that the Irish would have lost some of that momentum at half-time.

    They have not.

  12. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

The hosts play it short, then back to the corner taker Hourihane, his cross ends up with Kasper Schmeichel, unconvincing, parrying it out. But the hosts cross it again and a Danish defender then has a massive hold on David McGoldrick's shirt. But the defender gets away with it.

No VAR at this one. That would've been a penalty if spotted.

  13. Postpublished at 20:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2019

Ciaran Clark's header is deflected over. Another Irish corner.

  14. Postpublished at 48 mins

A much better set-piece delivery from Conor Hourihane with a free-kick deep close to the left touchline. But the ball bounces a couple of times in the Denmark penalty area with no Irish player getting a touch.

But now the hosts have a corner...

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 46 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

A chance at half time. The Republic's John Egan, who was involved in a clash of heads with Andreas Cornelius in the first period, is off and Newcastle's Ciaran Clark is on.

  16. Back under waypublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2019

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Right, who's going to be the Irish hero? Forty-five minutes, one goal needed.

But Luxembourg managed only four points and are out, the Irish are currently on 13 points and still very much in the hunt for automatic qualification.

    Funny old game.

Spain bagged a couple more goals just before the break and lead Romania 4-0 at half time - the same score Italy are currently beating Armenia by,

Elsewhere, Malta have impressively managed to equalise against Norway with Paul Fenech cancelling out Joshua King's early goal.

No changes in the other scores as Finland still lead Greece 1-0 while Sweden are beating Faroe Islands 1-0.

You know there's not been too many chances when the best you can take from the half is "well, the other side have had two injuries".
