  2. So far, so good?published at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2019

This is a strange thing to say considering the score and the permutations... but so far, so good for the Republic of Ireland.

They have been the better team, they have had the better chances and Denmark genuinely look there for the taking.

I think most Irish fans would have taken this at kick-off.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2019

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

At the moment Denmark are the ones joining Switzerland at Euro 2020.

But the hosts only need one goal for that to change. Goalless at the break. A dramatic second half awaits.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Conor Hourihane's corner from the left, annoyingly, does not beat the first man at the near post, but the Republic still have possession and Glenn Whelan's ball towards the back post is much better. However, Shane Duffy, who has been excellent so far, just about can't get his head on the end of the cross.

Corner for the hosts. Make it count...

A Christian Eriksen free-kick is floated towards the back post, but home captain Shane Duffy does excellently to flick it away from danger. Three minutes of added time in a largely forgettable first half.

The confidence flowing through David McGoldrick's veins to shoot from there...

He's been excellent so far with his hold-up and link-up play. All that's missing from his performance is a goal.

  9. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

David McGoldrick aims to make himself a hero. This would have been some goal if it had gone in. He strikes, hugely speculatively, from 35 yards out, but can't keep it down and it goes well over the top.

JavelBleach: Ireland need to get creative and daring. A draw is useless.

  11. CLOSE!published at 20:24 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2019

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Better from the Republic. It's an aimless, speculative ball forward launched from the Irish defence, David McGoldrick does well to head it on to Alan Browne, who runs on to it and unleashes a strike at goal from just outside the penalty area, but it bounces inches wide.

  12. Pukki party continuespublished at 20:22 Greenwich Mean Time 18 November 2019

If there's been a Pukki party in Finland over the weekend, Teemu Pukki is showing no signs of a hangover. That's because he's just put his side, who secured qualification to a first major tournament by beating Liechtenstein on Friday, ahead against Greece.

Meanwhile, Italy are cruising as Nicolo Barella and Ciro Immobile add another two goals against Armenia. They now lead 4-0 while Spain are now 2-0 up against Romania as Gerard Moreno flicked home a header.

Conor Hourihane's chance there has raised the decibel levels by a million (I don't know how decibels work).

They aren't going to get too many better chances in open play, but it's given them optimism.

  14. Postpublished at 34 mins

Chance. The home fans have had to wait 34 minutes for any sort of chance and it falls to Conor Hourihane and the Villa midfielder should do a lot better.

He bursts into a space in the penalty area and shoots side-footed at goal, but Kasper Schmeichel is well positioned and makes quite a routine stop.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 33 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Yep. Two changes for Denmark in only 32 minutes. Off goes Andreas Cornelius and on comes Kasper Dolberg.

  16. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Denmark have already had to make one change, and may now have to make another. Former Cardiff City front man Andreas Cornelius has a massive bandage on his head after a clash of heads with John Egan and now it looks like the Dane's done his hamstring.

To be honest every Irish fan knew exactly what they were in for tonight. It's not the official party line, but just try to get it to 80 minutes and hope for a header from a corner.

A Danish goal would be a disaster though. Ireland have only scored six goals in seven games. I don't see them scoring twice today.

  18. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Denmark

Our first sight of Christian Eriksen, who strikes from the corner of the penalty area, but some solid no-nonsense-get-your-body-in-the-way defending from Shane Duffy sends it away for a corner.

  19. Postpublished at 25 mins

A corner from the left for Denmark, but despite a bit of a scramble in the penalty area, no away player can get a shot away and Darren Randolph gratefully collects it.
