It's been a turbulent summer for Gareth Bale at Real Madrid but, regardless of his worries in Spain, he can always count on a hero's welcome in Wales.

As his country's all-time leading goalscorer and the captain tonight, there is no overstating Bale's importance to Wales.

And one supporter, Luke Harris, has taken Bale fandom to a new level by getting this image of the 30-year-old tattooed on his leg.

Wales manager Ryan Giggs makes five changes from June’s 1-0 defeat in Hungary.

With usual captain Ashley Williams left out of the squad, Swansea City centre-back Joe Rodon makes his debut and Gareth Bale wears the skipper’s armband.

In an entirely new defence from the loss in Budapest, Connor Roberts, Chris Mepham and Neil Taylor return at the expense of Chris Gunter, James Lawrence and Ben Davies.

Wales XI: Hennessey; Roberts, Mepham, Rodon, Taylor; Allen, Ampadu; Wilson, Bale, James; T Lawrence.

Azerbaijan, meanwhile, make four changes from their 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Slovakia in June. Maksim Medvedev, Bahlul Mustafazade, Mahir Emreli, Dmitry Nazarov are the players coming in.

Azerbaijan XI: Agayev; Pashayev, Medvedev, Mustafazade, Krivotsyuk; Garayev, Almeyda; Emreli, Nazarov, Rahimov; Sheydaev.

  8. The state of play in Group Epublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 6 September 2019

    Wales v Azerbaijan (19:45 BST)

This appears to be one of the more 'up for grabs' qualifying groups, with no absolute stand-out team and only one side who you'd say have no hope of qualifying.

Wales have beaten Slovakia at home but then lost in Hungary and Croatia. With only the top two qualifying, Ryan Giggs' side need to start picking up more points - starting with what should be their most straightforward game.
