  1. Celtic open up an early lead

    So, the champions move three points clear at the top of the Premiership and claim the Glasgow bragging rights.

    Celtic had more energy and were more clinical than Rangers, who huffed and puffed but could not fashion any meaningful chances against a back four that had been highlighted as a possible weak spot before kick off. However, the visitors were resolute throughout and well-organised at the back.

    "It's a tough one to take but I know why we haven't won the game and that's because, across the board, we weren't good enough," he tells Sky Sports.

    "In hindsight you can always look at the team you've picked and the game plan. I don't want to stand here and pass on all the blame to the dressing room - they have been fantastic for me. We are four points better off that at this time last season.

    "It's a blow to lose an Old Firm game but, when the dust settles, we are three points behind and there's an awful lot of football still to play but I'm part of why it went wrong today."

    More from Steven Gerrard, who thought referee Bobby Madden "let a little bit too much go early on" but had no complaints about Jordan Jones' stoppage-time dismissal.

    "It was a red card," he said. "I think he's tried to appease the fans but that's not how you appease Rangers fans - you create goals and score goals. That's how you get fans on your side - not kicking people when the ball is 10 yards away. He deserves his ban and he's got everything to do to get back into my team."

    Some strong words from Rangers manager Steven Gerrard in his interview with Sky Sports...

    "Our performance collectively and individually wasn't good enough to win a derby," he said. "I'm part of that so I'll take as much responsibility that comes my way.

    "To win these games we have to win more one-v-ones than the opposition but I think there's only one player who can hold his head up high and that's Jon Flanagan.

    "I don't think Celtic outplayed us they just pressed us hard and were effective in their game plan. We couldn't handle their direct play."

    “Steven Gerrard said when he assembled this squad that he could turn to the bench and change games and he had to do that today. I knew right away by his starting line-up that they were going to play quite narrow and sacrifice the wide areas and then try and get runners through the middle of the park. But it became easy for Celtic to work their structure and play directly up against that because they pressed Rangers really high and asked questions of them.

    If you are looking for a debrief for Rangers - two shots on target. Then, it's a real issue. They were swamped in midfield. I just couldn't see that Rangers side creating against a strong Celtic defence. You have to do it in games that matter and that was a game that matters.

    More from Celtic manager Neil Lennon, who had to cope with the loss of Kristoffer Ajer before kick off and an injury to Nir Bitton during it.

    "We had to patch it up a bit," he says. "Moritz Bauer has only come in the last couple of days, but he did a job for us. I thought Elhamed was outstanding considering he had been out for a couple of weeks with a stomach injury.

    "Bitton has been an imperious centre-half really. A great understanding, the two centre-halves, but we also have to pay tribute to the front six in front of them as well."

  10. More praise from Celtic boss Lennon

    Delighted Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been praising just about every player individually when speaking to BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound.

    "We are a front-foot team and I thought Scott Brown really was outstanding in that first half and set the tempo and he had great support from McGregor and Christie - their work-rate was fantastic after a big game on Thursday night," he says.

    "The back four played outstandingly well - players who have already been written off. Bolingoli and Jullien were magnificent and showed great character and we looked very comfortable at 1-0."

  12. 'We owed it to ourselves' - Hayes

    After scoring the second goal today, Celtic's Jonny Hayes tells Sky Sports: "Winning the game was vital and keeping our 100% record going.

    "Last couple times (at Ibrox) we didn't turn up, we didn't perform and owed it to ourselves with the backing we have off the field to put in a good performance.

    "The manager is one of the best motivators in the game. He's driven it into us that we need to start better, and we've run hard on the training field this week preparing for this game."

    Speaking to Sky Sports, man of the match, Celtic's Christopher Jullien, says his first taste of Old Firm football was "perfect".

    "I have no words for the job we did on the field," he said. "Jonny came on and finished the job but for 95 minutes we pushed ourselves, everyone was like a family on the field, the victory is just perfect.

    "Not since the beginning of the season have we defended so well. Before every match we say we have to talk to each other a lot and when you are a family out there you do that."
