That's a good chance for Katic. Rangers look really effective around that box. They are not playing with natural wide men, but they have good one-touch movement

Bitton is not a natural central-defender and Jullien, although improving, doesn't have great pace. I wonder if Steven Gerrard is looking to exploit that with Defoe's pace

  13. Lennon confident in 'brilliant' defensive pairingpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

    Rangers v Celtic (12:00)

Celtic manager Neil Lennon is missing Kristopher Ajer and Jozo Simunovic through injury, but is confident that Nir Bitton and Christopher Jullien can fill in perfectly well.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Celtic manager says: "We knew Kris was struggling. We knew Jozo had a reaction in his knee to training. So we're prepared. The two guys [Bitton and Jullien] played centre-half on Thursday and were brilliant. We're hoping for some more of the same. [Hatem Abd] Elhamed is fit so he comes in as well.

"We've missed him in the last couple of games and we've had to play Kris at right back. So it's nice to have Hatem back despite his two games out."

  14. Gerrard has 'trust' in Defoepublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

    Rangers v Celtic (12:00)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard also explained why he opted for Jermain Defoe over Alfredo Morelos.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Gerrard says: "It was a very tough decision. It wasn't the only tough decision I had to make. I've gone for the freshness. Alfredo had to put a lot in to Thursday night [vs Legia Warsaw] right until the death.

"I've gone for Jermain in that area who I trust. Who is very experienced. Who did the job here in the last Old Firm very, very well. So that's the reason he got the nod. But having said that, Alfredo still has a big part to play because at some point he will be needed."

    Rangers v Celtic (12:00)

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has decided to drop Craig Gordon for Fraser Forster between the sticks today at Ibrox.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Celtic manager explained his reasoning. He said: "Craig [Gordon] had a fine game on Thursday [against AIK] but we've decided to go with Fraser [Forster] just to give us that presence in the goal. I've got two excellent goalkeepers so it really was a difficult decision to make but we've given Fraser the nod."

Both teams, if they lose this game, are capable of rectifying that, but it would not be nice and would stick in the throat. Celtic are capable of destroying Rangers if they are not up for it and that's why Steven Gerrard has gone with a solid midfield
