GOAL Hibernian 1-0 Heartspublished at 47 mins

    Stevie Mallan

What. A. Goal. We needed something special to brighten up a low-key Edinburgh derby and Stevie Mallan has done just that.

With a flash of his right boot, the Hibs man sends an unstoppable howitzer from about 30 yards into the top corner of the net.

Scott Allan needs to get a lot closer to Florian Kamberi to allow the gameplan to work. It 's tight in there, not only with the two midfielders from Hearts but you’ve got Daryl Horgan and Stevie Martin who’s not naturally a winger in there. But he just needs to get closer to Florian, keep his head a little more, stay a little higher and I’m sure one of the passes someone will get on the end of it

  4. 'Allan and Meshino the players to watch in second half'published at 15:56

    HT: Hibs 0-0 Hearts

    Neil McCann
Former Scotland winger on BBC Sportsound

It's not a classic, but there's plenty of endeavor. If anything is going to come it's going to come from a cross or a wide position but I don't think we've seen terrific quality from out wide.

The tempo will slow down, people will switch off. Hibs' Scott Allan can pick a pass and he will become more of a threat and Ryotaro Meshino is Heart's main threat too.

  6. HALF-TIME Hibs 0-0 Heartspublished at 15:47

The Edinburgh derby has featured two heavyweights trading inaccurate blows but in truth it's the supporters/viewers who are on the ropes after a scrappy opening 45 minutes.

However, hope springs eternal for better fare after the break.

That's pure frustration from Daryl Horgan. Aaron Hickey, the young man does really well, and gets Hearts out of trouble.

    Quote Message

Hearts' Jake Mulraney is having a tough afternoon. He's virtually playing as a left-back.

  12. Hibs frustratedpublished at 35 mins

    Hibs 0-0 Hearts

Scott Allan plays the ball wide to Florian Kamberi and you can tell the striker is itching to get an effort on goal. However he's forced wide and then floats a cross into the box... but there are no takers in green and white.

    Hibs 0-0 Hearts

Sean Clare heads an Aaaron Hickey cross high over the bar as the visitors opt for the more direct route to goal.

More attacking intent shown by Craig Levein's side in the first half of an Edinburgh derby that in truth has yet to ignite.

  15. Harsh yellow for Whelanpublished at 15:29

    Hibs 0-0 Hearts

    Neil McCann
Former Scotland winger on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

There's nothing in that Glenn Whelan challenge on Chris Maxwell. The goalkeeper has done about three or four rolls there, and now he's alright. Surprise, surprise...

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 25 mins

    Hibs 0-0 Hearts

Glenn Whelan is booked by referee John Beaton for over-zealous pressing on Hibs goalkeeper Chris Maxwell.

"That's harsh," opines BBC Sportsound pundit Marvin Bartley.

  17. Hibs 0-0 Heartspublished at 25 mins

Melker Hallberg drags an effort wide of goal as Hibs show signs of building momentum. It remains goalless after 25 minutes but encouraging signs on the "give us a goal" front...

  18. 'Kamberi’s getting frustrated'published at 15:23

    Hibs 0-0 Hearts

    Marvin Bartley
    Livingston midfielder on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

There’s nothing more frustrating for a centre forward when it gets into a wide area and they refuse to cross, and you can see Florian Kamberi’s becoming frustrated.
