  2. 'Hennessey was excellent'published at 20:03 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

More from Roy Hodgson on Wayne Hennessey's performance: "He was excellent, absolutely excellent. I was pleased because he's had to wait for his chance because Vincente Guaita has been so good. But Wayne's been working hard in the background to show us hes still a good goalkeeper and he showed us that today."

  3. 'We have still got our hat pegged nicely'published at 19:59 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, speaking to BBC Sport: "They were two very good goals, they had had a lot of possession and they had been pushing us back. We were unable to establish possession and ask one or two question ourselves.

"I am pleased and proud of the way the players did not drop their heads. I take a lot of comfort from that.

"That is why they are champions of England and that is why the players they sign are of really good technical ability.

"We are not in a bad place and we are not in a much worse place after today's game. We could have been if we had collapsed. We have still got our hat pegged nicely in place and we have to accept sometimes we will come across a team as good as they were today."

  4. 'We have to do it all the time'published at 19:58 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Manchester City

Manchester City goalscorer Gabriel Jesus: "We played well. With and without the ball, that is great for us. Bernardo's cross was amazing, I am happy because I tried two or three times before to score.

"It is always difficult to play against Crystal Palace. We have to pass the ball all the time to try and score. They have good players.

"It is not just about this. We have to do it all the time - thinking about winning. Of course we can't always win. Sometimes football is like this and now is the time to come back strong."

  7. 'We gave them as good a game as we were capable of'published at 19:48 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson on Sky Sports: "I thought we worked unbelievably hard and we came across a Manchester City in top form. They gave us no time on the ball whatsoever and they played with their usual aplomb in the final third.

"We were a bit unlucky in the final third ourselves but we can't have any complaints really. I was proud of the way we fought and kept going when it was going against us and we could have came away with a goal or two ourselves.

"Our players worked really hard to follow our game plan and we tried to seal them off but it's hard because they have so much quality in their team. We needed an early goal to shake them and that didn't happen but we kept going and kept trying."

On Christian Benteke's header that nearly went in: "It would have been a great moment for him. It was such a good header and I don't know how the keeper kept it out. I was thinking 'oh great, Christian's got off the mark with a great goal against the champions'. But hopefully he can still take confidence from that and take that into the next games.

"We took the chance of opening ourselves up towards the end with bringing Christian on the pitch. During that time we created a bit more but they created a lot more than they did in the first 70 minutes or so but that's what quality teams do. That's what teams like Manchester City do.

"I was proud of the way we kept going and didn't give up. We gave them as good a game as we were capable of."

  8. 'Both keepers were outstanding'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Crystal Palace defender Gary Cahill, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought the second half was slightly better than the first half. I thought both keepers were outstanding. I don't know how Ederson kept out Benteke's header - it had power and direction.

"When they have good possession and you try and squeeze up the ball in behind is always available. We knew it would be tough. They killed us with the goals, obviously with the first but the second being so quick as well.

"I think the second half always opens up a bit because people get tired. You could sense Manchester City knew they had to win that and they did."

  9. 'Ederson made two incredible saves'published at 19:40 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on BBC Match of the Day: "After the international break to play here at Selhurst Park and create a lot of chances was good. We played well and created a lot of chances but didn't score too many but we didn't concede. We conceded chances at the end but Ederson made two incredible saves. It's three points and we move forward.

"They defend so deep and they have quality up front with Benteke for the long balls and Zaha as well.

"We enjoyed the second goal - it was nice. But in the Premier League we have to score the third and fourth because it was difficult in the end with the pressure."

On playing Fernandinho and Rodri at centre-back: "Our build-up was quicker because they have more intelligence and they pass the ball so well because they are central midfielders."

  10. 'Hopefully we can start from here'published at 19:35 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports: "As always good. We played good, created a lot of chances. They are always so strong for the second ball. Unfortunately we could not convert the enough chances we had but it was an important three points after the international break. They were I think one point below, so they are having an incredible season.

"Hopefully we can start from here and continue our good performance. Their keeper made a lot of saves but hopefully we can be more clinical."

On his makeshift defence: "Rodri did not train one day in that position. The back four responded well I think."

Will you watch Manchester United versus Liverpool: "I have to see (our next opponents) Atalanta."

  11. 'We focus on winning every game'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

    Manchester City

Man City's Fernandinho on Sky Sports: "We just tried to play our style of football and our philosophy. In the first half we scored two goals and controlled the game but at the end of the game they brought on Benteke and he caused some problems for us but Ederson was superb to make the saves.

"They started to play long balls and high balls for their tall players. But if we scored the goals from the chances we created it would have been a different game."

On playing at centre-back: "It was fine. In the first half we controlled out actions and didn't concede any chances. But in the second half we dropped our concentration but overall we were better and deserved the win.

On the title race: "The Premier League is so tough, so hard, so we just try to win our games and do our job. We focus on winning every game. That is all we can do."

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

    Steve Brown
Former Charlton Athletic defender on BBC Radio London

Raheem Sterling has just not got his shooting boots on today. He has mistimed his passes, he has had some great chances but he just cannot score. It's obviously one of those days. He could have had a hat-trick instead he cannot get a thing.

  16. CLOSE!published at 89 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

Brilliant from Ederson as he prevents Crystal Palace from getting back into this game as he stops Wilfried Zaha's powerful strike from close range.

Both goalkeepers have pulled off some superb save games in this game.

  17. Postpublished at 86 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-2 Man City

    Oh Raheem Sterling.

The shooting boots have clearly been left at home as he is picked out in the middle of the box by João Cancelo's square ball but he skews a first-time effort wide.

    Steve Brown
Former Charlton Athletic defender on BBC Radio London

Wow, wow, wow Ederson. That was an expert save, it was outstanding. Not many could save that. You almost feel for Wayne Hennessey because he has made some great saves but that one was just out of the world.
