  1. 'When does a blip become a crisis?'published at 14:57 British Summer Time 19 October 2019

    Spurs v Watford (15:00 BST)

    Steve Wilson
    Match of the Day commentator

When does a blip become a crisis? Tottenham fans will have an opinion - and no doubt they will have opinions on who's to blame.

What is clear is that as Tottenham Hotspur PLC grows its store of valuable fixtures and fittings, the only fixtures which matter to fans have been going extraordinarily badly.

Luckily for Spurs, their opponents on Saturday are enduring a shocking start to the season with only three points and four goals collected from eight games.

This is Watford's fifth successive season in the top flight; making it six has to be their only focus - and that won't be easy with such an ageing squad.

Aston Villa v Brighton (15:00 BST)

Aston Villa are unbeaten at home to Brighton in all competitions, with eight wins and three draws in 11 meetings.

This is the first top-flight encounter between the sides since a goalless draw at Brighton's Goldstone Ground in March 1983.

They met at the Amex Stadium last month in the League Cup third round, with Villa winning 3-1 against a youthful home side.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, otherwise known as 'Top', has taken over the running of Leicester City.

A continuous stream of well wishers has been making their way across to the directors' box to shake his hand.

Top has written some poignant programme notes this afternoon.

"Thank you once again, from the bottom of my heart," he said.

The memorial garden "will be a permanent reminder to us of the people of Leicester's remarkable display of love and respect during that difficult time".

    Jermaine Jenas
Ex-Tottenham and Newcastle midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sometimes it takes some players more time than others [to make the breakthrough]. Tammy Abraham had a slow start – he did well at Bristol City, but Swansea didn’t go too well. He’s learning all along the way.

The beauty of Chelsea is its perfect combination – the young players and players like Emerson, Azpilicueta, Pedro, Willian, they've got World Cup winners and experienced internationals who can take the heat and pressure off their shoulders.

They’ve played together at youth level – it’s not like a mish-mash of buying players from Italy and Germany.

I just went on the 'Walk for Vichai' from the local university down to the stadium.

There were thousands who responded to the call for what was an entirely fan-led venture. It took 10 minutes for everyone to get out of Magazine Square and about 40 to get to the stadium, where a floral tribute stands close to the spot where Vichai's helicopter crashed just under a year ago.

Fans I have spoken to were hugely appreciative of Vichai's son, Top, who has carried on his father's legacy.

A memorial garden in Vichai's memory will be opened on the actual anniversary, which is a week tomorrow.

I played with Adama Traore at Aston Villa and he was amazing. I tried to race him one time - I thought I was a quick defender - and he gave me about ten yards. Rookie error! It’s nice to see things paying off for him. He has been written off a few times and now he can go on and enjoy his football.

Smith says "he is proud of the way he [Mings] handled himself, both on and off the pitch" in Sofia.

Norwich could equal their longest away losing streak from the beginning of a top-flight season: five in 1980-81.

Their solitary away goal this season is Teemu Pukki's consolation strike against Liverpool on the opening weekend.

They could concede two goals or more for a seventh consecutive league game. That last happened to them in April 1985.

Aston Villa v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    On Brighton striker Aaron Connolly...

Sheffield United's ex-Brighton midfielder midfielder Oliver Norwood: "I was so impressed with him in training. John Egan was in the Republic of Ireland squad with him. What impressed him the most was his movement.

"In training he was really sharp and was hitting things through players’ legs. I think he’s got a big future. He’s a grounded lad. He’s taken his opportunity. I think he’ll be playing every week and will score a lot of goals."

Ex-Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas: "He’s got hunger. He’s playing in a team who look like they have a freedom to attack. He was that fearless player when you’re young and getting your big chance. He had too much energy, pace and ability for Spurs."
