Nuno Espirito Santo is out sitting on the Wolves bench while his players are still in the dressing room. I don't think he's very happy.

  4. Newcastle above Man Utd?published at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October 2019

    Newcastle 1-0 Wolves

Newcastle fans might want to take a picture of the Premier League table.

The Magpies are above Manchester United in the 'as it stands' table.

What a time to be alive.

    Newcastle 1-0 Wolves

Newcastle have had nine shots so far - their most in the first half of a Premier League game since 6 April when they lost 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace.

Still only one attempt on target against Wolves. At least it resulted in a goal.

Hasan Anfield: Thursday night fatigue clearly showing. Wolves have been poor.

Francis: For the quality Wolves have in midfield and on the flanks, their attack is spineless. Jimenez is a good finisher but does nothing else, and what does Jota do?

Allan Saint-Maximin is brilliant to watch, he is one of those players who when he gets the ball you don’t know what he is going to do because he does not know what he is going to.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 27 October 2019

    Newcastle 1-0 Wolves

Not a great game but the locals don't care. They've seen their side score a rare goal - and they lead.

  9. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Newcastle 1-0 Wolves

Free-kick to Wolves in a decent position in the dying moments of the half. Diogo Jota - who was at fault for the goal - manages to get a shot away but it's comfortable for Martin Dubravka.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be spitting feathers at half-time.

His side have now conceded four headed goals in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle were boring under Benitez and they're still boring under Bruce. Common denominator: a very poor squad.

    Andy, Liverpool

I've been watching Lascelles closely in this game and his communication is excellent - he looks a born leader. And that was a fantastic header. If he keeps this up, top six teams will be interested.

    Newcastle 1-0 Wolves

Newcastle have come alive since scoring. Suddenly, they're playing with an air of confidence.

Each of Jamal Lascelles' six Premier League goals have been headers.

That's what you call an aerial threat!

Wolves will be furious with that.

Newcastle had posed next to no threat before Jamaal Lascelles' goal.

Now the visitors have to haul themselves back into this.

That is a really powerful header, they probably deserve the lead after their last 10 minutes of play. They have been waiting for a great cross in and when it came, they scored. It has been a slow start to the game, let's hope this brings the game to life.

GOAL - Newcastle 1-0 Wolvespublished at 37 mins

    Jamaal Lascelles

    B-O-O-M! What a header!

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles lifts the mood around St James' Park with a brilliant leap and finish after Diogo Jota gifts the hosts possession. It's a great assist too by Federico Fernandez.

A timely goal by Lascelles - the skipper's first for almost two years.

  16. CLOSE!published at 35 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Wolves

Superb ball over the top by Matty Longstaff creates a great chance for Miguel Almiron. The Paraguay forward has the legs to sprint clear of Romain Saiss but his finish ends up in the side netting.

That's got the locals out of their seats...

  17. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Wolves

Decent spell of pressure by Wolves which sees Joao Moutinho float an inviting cross into the mix following a corner. Newcastle clear and they're away on the counter. It's an anti-climax - over before it's really begun after a careless pass.

  18. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Wolves

Half an hour on the clock.

    One shot on target.

It was by Wolves' Joao Moutinho in the second minute - and produced a very comfortable save.

Not a lot has happened since.

  19. Postpublished at 29 mins

Newcastle play better football under Steve Bruce than Rafael Benitez?

That's a strong statement, Francis. Not sure they're helping your argument here.

Kris Jefferson: This is the problem with Newcastle and has been for a while, they only turn up against the ‘big teams’ Have been poor most of the season, yet have wins against Spurs and Man Utd, they’re only wins to date.

Francis Edwards: Newcastle play better football under Bruce than they ever did under Rafa.

Two very differing opinions there, so who is right?
