If you're looking for an explanation as to why City's second goal was not ruled out for offside, look no further.

Here is what Mark Chapman has just read out on 5 Live from the Premier League match centre: "Manchester City's second goal was given because there as no definitive angle or view for the VAR official to show that David Silva had touched the ball. When Kevin de Bruyne strikes it the check was made whether Raheem Sterling was offside and he was shown to be onside."

The contact is very minimal but Fernandinho does not even need to get near Nakamba, don’t give the referee an opportunity.

That now makes it even harder for City with the next run of games.

Pep will be very disappointed considering the situation with City's defence.

John Stones requires treatment on the pitch. Not another City defender injured?

Stones goes off to change into new shorts. He's back on the pitch for the closing stages.

As much as I would have loved Villa to win, I think we all knew it was unlikely despite previous results. This isn't our battle this year, whilst you go to win every game, our battle is more the lower half of the table to stay up

    City down to 10!

More defensive headaches for Pep Guardiola as Ferandinho is dismissed for a second yellow card.

That's no way to mark your 200th Premier League appearance.

Manchester City's next league game is at home to a Southampton side hurting from a 9-0 stuffing at the hands of Leicester.

Then it's the big one...away to Liverpool on 10 November.

While I don't dispute City winning this game, second goal should never have stood. Sterling blindsided Heaton & was in an offside position. Ludicrous.

Jonnets: Still 15 minutes for City to get another six.

Rhys: Plenty of Liverpool fans saying Sterling was offside, despite the ref, video ref and Peter Walton saying he wasn't. Wonder why they don't want that goal to count. Hmmmm

Jon Evans: Can't understand why VAR didn't overturn the second goal. Have the operators been told to never overturn in Villa's favour? How many times already this season?

City have scored 32 league goals this season -11 more than Liverpool - yet still trail the leaders, who have a game in hand, by three points.

The Premier League have awarded City's third goal to Kevin de Bruyne - despite David Silva's celebrations.

I sense a healthy debate in the home dressing room after this.

This is tough on Villa. They did so well in the first half and could have taken the lead but have fallen away and are now on a damage-limitation excercise. A hard lesson for the Premier League new boys.

A well worked goal again. Ilkay Gundogan comes in with almost a karate kick, a scissor kick: such a difficult tecninque and that’s what City needed.

Khan Karn: Sterling is surely offside blocking the keeper's view there. Has to be ruled out. Regardless of whether Silva touched it or not Sterling was offside and affected the keeper by being there. So that has to be ruled out. Ridiculous

Field: And a day later VAR back to not working. Sterling was interfering, so sterling must be onside because hes definitely active.
