Strong finish to the half by City.
Bernardo Silva fizzes the ball across Villa's penalty area but no one in blue can connect.
Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
Let off for Aston Villa on the stroke of half-time.
Raheem Sterling dances past a couple of challenges before laying it on a plate for David Silva but he can't finish...the ball trickling agonisingly wide.
He should have scored!
Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
Jack Grealish needs to cool it!
He's already been booked and gets in a tangle with David Silva. Silva attempts to break free but Grealish's left hand prevents the City player from going anywhere.
City fans are howling for a red card.
Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
Raheem Sterling is inside Villa's penalty area wants a corner as the ball rolls out of play but the referee is having none of it and awards a goal kick.
City are frustrated. Villa are well drilled and holding their own.

It was brilliant by John Stones: he put his body on the line, it was a wonderful block but the Villa players are saying the ball might have hit the defender's arm.
Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
First booking of the game as Raheem Sterling is brought down as he attempts to gallop past Jack Grealish.
A huge roar breaks out as the Villa man sees yellow.
Moments later Sterling produces a clever header which flashes narrowly wide of the post.
Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
Another chance for Villa and Trezeguet manages to get a goal-bound shot away which strikes a sliding John Stones on the body.
It hits the City defender's hip before deflecting on to his hand.
Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
The TV camera turns to Sergio Aguero...who looks pretty miserable sat on City's substitutes bench.

City's Kevin de Bruyne is the only player to have created more Premier League chances than Jack Grealish this season (27-24 including two for De Bruyne today), but we've not seen much of Villa's main man so far.
Grealish has had several touches in the City half but only managed one moment of note, a dashing run down the right that ended with a very hopeful cross into an empty penalty area.
That was still enough for the Villa fans to give us the first chant of 'Super Jack' of the afternoon. Will there be more?

Andrew Neil: City struggling here. Best bring on Aguero and Otamendi. For tactical reasons you understand. Nothing to do with #FantasyFootball

Manchester City are trying but they just can’t find that cutting pass.
Normally they are slicker.
Aston Villa are defending well but it needs to be quicker from City.
Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
So far, so good for Villa.
They're solid in defence and attacking at pace on the counter.
City have been limited to two shots on target in the opening half an hour.

James Quirke: RE: 12:47 - It’s not our away kit. It’s a 3rd kit. And most Villa fans don’t like it either.
Matt Andrews: Re bob at 12:47....its our third kit actually.... I love it. Proper retro.
Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
Superb by John McGinn.
He back helping Villa's defence and manages to stop City from getting a shot away.
He's been a breath of fresh air this season.
Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
That was poor by John Stones. Villa should have punished City. Will that prove costly?

This handball rule in the box is a farce. Even less of a touch for City attacking (vs Spurs) and it's disallowed. VAR is just negatively impacting attacking football.

Man City 0-0 Aston Villa
HUGE moment for Villa.
John Stones gifts possession to the visitors and the City's defence is stretched. Douglas Luiz looks to pounce on a rebound after a save by Ederson before going down in a tangle of legs.
Penalty?
Play goes on...
Man City 0- Aston Villa
First serious save of the match!
Lovely stuff from Joao Cancelo as City's right-back cuts the ball onto his left foot and lets fly from 30-yards.
It's a comfortable stop in the end.
