    Aston Villa 1-0 Liverpool

Sadio Mane is two yards out when he gets on the end of Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross but Tom Heaton makes a vital block as the ball cannons off the keeper's shoulder.

That's a huge chance for Liverpool who are enduring a frustrating day in the West Midlands.

  3. City not having any joy with their crossingpublished at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2019

    Man City 0-1 Southampton

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

There is just no way through this Southampton defence at the moment. They are defending very narrow, leaving space out wide and encouraging crosses into a crowded penalty area.

City have had 41 of those from open play alone in the first hour, and are still waiting for their first shot on target - so it is safe to say Saints' ploy is working, so far.

The average positions map tells you all you need to know about the pattern of play in this game. All but two of City's outfield players are in the Southampton half.

The Saints' average position map looks a little bit like an arrow, almost mocking the hosts by pointing at their goal.

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Tottenham and England winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

There’s still a long way to go, I don’t know if it might be interesting for Aston Villa to put El Mohamady on one wing and Taylor on the other wing to stop Liverpool full-backs coming forward, because the two wide men at the moment are not helping defensively a great deal.

    Dion Dublin
Former Man Utd striker on Final Score

Southampton look like a completely different side. They have players behind the ball and they all know what they are doing, they all look organised. They will have had a rocket of late from their manager, they will not want to see that again and today they are showing some real fire and when they get the ball back they are trying to play.

It's been a good first half in the Premier League. Obviously all eyes are on the Liverpool and Manchester City games and I am looking forward to seeing how it pans out. I still think there will be a change in results there. I think Liverpool and Manchester City will win. It's just a matter of time.

Surely game over for West Ham now?

Jonjo Shelvey makes it 3-0 to the visitors with an excellent free-kick, curling it over the wall and out of the keeper's reach.

This has been an excellent away performance by Steve Bruce's side.
