  1. 'Defence the best form of attack for Newcastle'published at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

    Newcastle v Bournemouth (15:00 GMT)

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

They've had the lowest average possession in the Premier League, so maybe defence is the best form of attack for them. Being clinical on the break and relying on set pieces, is that now the default for Newcastle?

I like Alain Saint-Maximin, he's very quick, I think still a little rough around the edges, but he can cause teams problems.

  3. 'Expectations are hindering West Ham'published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

Burnley v West Ham (15:00 GMT)

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

At the start of the season, things were going well and we're thinking we're finally seeing a different West Ham, one with grit and determination to get results.

Then they went away to a lower league side in the cup and got tonked 4-0, and it put their four Premier League clean sheets behind them and changed the momentum.

They've improved as a team but those different expectations are starting to hinder them.

  4. 'Spurs need to find consistency'published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

Tottenham v Sheffield United (15:00 GMT)

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham keeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Spurs would be worried about playing against Sheffield United.

Their big issue is the lack of consistency this season. Today is about making sure they play well, Sheffield united are a real team, really well organised.

Man for man Spurs are a better team but sometimes it is not just about that.

  5. 'The hosts need to up their game'published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

Tottenham v Sheffield United (15:00 GMT)

    Alistair Mann
Match of the Day commentator at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

The momentum gained from promotion can have a galvanising effect, and Sheffield United have utilised it in their first season back in the Premier League for 12 years.

Unlike many promoted teams in recent years, the Blades have remained largely unaltered either in terms of personnel or tactically and are relying successfully on the methodology which had previously served them so well.

That they sit sixth, with Spurs five places below them, says a great deal, as does the fact that only Liverpool can match their current unbeaten Premier League away record.

Without a win in their last four league games, the hosts will need to up their game considerably to pick up their first three points since September.

  6. 'Saints owe their home fans'published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

    Southampton v Everton (15:00 GMT)

    Steve Wilson
Match of the Day commentator at St Mary's Stadium

Southampton's only home point this season was against Manchester United, which says a lot about Ralph Hasenhuttl's side - and perhaps about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's too.

They owe their home fans a performance after their last outing at St Mary's, the humiliating capitulation against Leicester.

Things have never got quite that bad for Everton under Marco Silva, but there's the distinct feeling that the Portuguese manager is on borrowed time. For such an expensively-assembled squad, to be one place above the relegation zone looks dreadful.

However, the pool of Premier League mediocrity runs so deep just now that a win at Southampton might propel them to mid-table - maybe even above Manchester United.

  7. 'The mood can quickly change'published at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

    Newcastle v Bournemouth (15:00 GMT)

    Guy Mowbray
Match of the Day commentator at St James' Park

Given Newcastle's difficult early-season fixtures, could they realistically have hoped to be better placed than they now are?

Supporter frustrations are known and understood, but - yes, I'm going to say it - Steve Bruce is doing a good job. Would Rafa Benitez have got more points? Doubtful.

The mood can quickly change however, and this is just the sort of game that could change it. 'Little' Bournemouth are beating the odds again, and last week's match-winner against Manchester United, Josh King, says "the sky is the limit" with another win here.

Music to the ears of Cherries fans seated way, way up in the sky at St James' Park on their longest away trip of the season.

  8. 'Closer to the bottom three than the top four'published at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

Burnley v West Ham (15:00 GMT)

    Steven Wyeth
Match of the Day commentator at Turf Moor

Form can be infuriatingly elusive: easy to relinquish, difficult to rediscover.

When West Ham beat Manchester United in September they had taken 10 points from the last 12 available, were fifth, and European football seemed a rational aspiration. Five winless matches later the Hammers are closer to the bottom three than the top four.

Autumnal signs of encouragement faded fast for Burnley too, a point and a place worse of than their visitors in 14th after three successive defeats.

The match offers both sides the chance to restore confidence before the international break, making another negative result all the more unthinkable.

  10. 'Emotional and weird'published at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

    Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace

Former Chelsea and now Crystal Palace defender Gary Cahill speaking to the BBC: "It was very strange to come back here. It was always going to be a bit emotional and a bit weird. Thank you to the fans for the reception, that was terrific. To spend so much of my career and life as a footballer here, and the memories I've got, that's life as a footballer, you move on.

"We've come up against a very good team in very good form so it was difficult today. We defended very well as a team in the first half. The onus is on them to be on the front foot but we soaked it up and defended well. The first goal was a blow and luck went their way.

"We started the season very well and that's an understatement. We know we've got the ability to go on and finish in a decent place. We're looking to finish in the top half. You have to have goals and ambitions. This run is tough, but it's time for us to really knuckle down and try and win some points.

"For a fan of Chelsea it's so exciting for the young lads to have these opportunities... It was very tough today. We played well but the quality's there. The more experience they get the better they'll be for it."

  11. Postpublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

Southampton will move above Watford if they win at home against Everton, but the Saints need to win by a six-goal margin to go above their opponents today.

A big day too for Newcastle as they look to move out of this graphic...

Alex Chamberlain: I think this Chelsea team has clicked really well and as such the temptation for marquee signings should be resisted so as not the distort the balance of the team.

Jay Watson: In just three months Lampard has taken Chelsea from one of the most disliked teams to a lot of fans second team, I’m West Ham and can’t help but admire his work.

  13. How they standpublished at 14:42 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

Chelsea's win over Crystal Palace earlier on sees them jump above reigning champions Manchester City, who play at league leaders Liverpol tomorrow.

Sheffield United will go fifth if they beat Tottenham, although Arsenal would then regain that spot if they win at Leicester in the late kick-off. A Foxes win later on will see them end the day second.

  14. 'We needed to stay focused'published at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

    FT: Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace

Chelsea goalscorer Tammy Abraham speaking to BT Sport: "The most important thing was we got the three points. At half-time the manager said we needed to stay focused and the chances would come.

"Crystal Palace are a good side, they defend well as a team and they frustrated our style of play."

  15. 'Chelsea were patient, disciplined and clinical'published at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November 2019

    Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace

    Steve Sidwell
Former Chelsea midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea are putting pressure on those teams above and around them.

The fans are fully on board, they knew the team had to be patient and disciplined and in the second half they were clinical with Abraham and Pulisic.

Another good performance and good timing before the international break.
