Nico Lennon: ️Great finish from Jetro Willems and an Almiron assist no less (his first). Almost a mirror of Sterling's goal the other end. 1-1 and not undeserved on balance of play.

Robbie Kahar: That was a beautiful goal by Newcastle lovely one touch football.

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

Raheem Sterling's shot is blocked, then David Silva's and Newcastle come out with the ball. There's a three-on-three as Miguel Almiron holds it up in the centre but the hosts are patient.

They wait for more support but John Stones wins it in the centre. City then break down the right with Riyad Mahrez but it doesn't come through to Silva.

    Extraordinary noise inside St James'.

I was in the middle of writing about Newcastle coach Steve Agnew's look of disgust as his defence got in a muddle for City's goal and then the Magpies go and equalise through Willems, who has been one the Magpies' best recent signings.

That was Almiron's first assist too! He received as many congratulations as the goalscorer.

Gabriel Jesus spins Paul Dummett and goes around him in the box. He cuts it back but there's nobody there in the middle.

It comes to Allan Saint-Maximin on the left and he has two players around him. Some dancing feet, a quick turn and he wins a throw-in. Brilliant stuff.

It is a magnigficent finish, and another give and go at the edge of City’s area.

Willems had so much space in front of him, steadies himself and then a brilliant finish with his wrong foot which gives Ederson no chance.

    Jetro Willems

    Oh hello!

Miguel Almiron gets away down the left and cuts it back inside for Jetro Willems. He's unmarked as he takes one touch then smashes it into the bottom corner.

    Game on!

It has been coming - a little give and go from David Silva and a sublime back heel into Sterling who curls it into the bottom corner.

Brilliant from City, sensational from Silva.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 24 mins

Allan Saint-Maximin breaks through the City midfield with ease and Newcastle have numbers going forward.

Ilkay Gundogan drags him back to break down play and goes straight into the book.

    Raheem Sterling

'It's been coming,' as they say.

David Silva and Raheem Sterling link-up in the box - a fortunate ricochet helping it along, before the Spaniard flicks it into Sterling's path.

He's unmarked and fires it into the bottom right corner.

  11. CLOSE!published at 21 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Man City

Newcastle win a free-kick about 25 yards out. The angle is tight but Jonjo Shelvey has a pop anyway and it's a decent one.

He whips it low, around the wall and aimed towards Ederson's bottom right corner. The City keeper has it covered though - it's always bobbling just wide. He dives out of the way at the right time and it flies out for a goal kick.

Mahrus Ahmed: Fernandinho is criminally underrated. City are helpless without him

  13. CLOSE!published at 19 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Man City

Ahh, lovely play! Riyad Mahrez is slipped in six yards out. He backheels it into the path of Raheem Sterling but Federico Fernandez makes a brilliant last-ditch tackle.

    That was on a plate!

From the resulting corner, Fernandinho heads it inches over the bar. City getting closer...

    So far as expected.

Man City have all the ball and Newcastle are just sitting back, patiently waiting for their chance to break.

One of those opportunities arrive as Joelinton carries the ball forward. He tries to feed it in on the right but Fernandinho gets there first.

Paul Dummett is screaming instructions at his Newcastle teammates during the set-piece but John Stones still gets there first. He's stretching all the time though, and his header sails harmlessly wide.

Qaaltag: Almiron is the player to watch today. He's going to terrorise Mendy. The Man City left back is out of practice & out of sorts. Newcastle are far from pushovers at home. They'll be hard to breakdown. I'm not saying they'll will win, but I don't think City will either.

City are pressing very high up the pitch - understandably with Newcastle offering nothing but Joelinton in attack.

But as we saw a few moments earlier that leaves them susceptible to the quick break from either of Newcastle's wide attackers.

Joelinton holds the ball up well but can't get it out of his feet to make the pass. He's eventually brought down by John Stones, who can only hoof it straight at Jonjo Shelvey.

The Newcastle midfielder tries to play a quick ball over the top but doesn't get it right. This is better from the hosts!
