    HOW?

    Oh, this was the chance.

Gabriel Jesus is played in by David Silva and only has the keeper to beat. Martin Dubravka makes himself big and pulls off a brilliant save!

Kevin de Bruyne picks up the rebound but his shot is blocked!

Kris Jefferson: Weirdly, City play exactly how Newcastle want teams to play against them, have a lot of the possession and allow Newcastle to break on the counter, not too much of a surprise it’s even.

Anthony Middleton: I don’t want to fall prey to the commentator’s curse, but Fernandez has been an unsung hero for Newcastle this season. Solid game today too (so far!).

Pep Guardiola is doing his best to encourage his side, clapping them from his area but he also has the look of, "it might one of those days".

When does he bring on Bernardo Silva?

Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus get in each other's way as Kevin de Bruyne plays a nice one-two into the box.

Jesus ends up taking a snapshot but it rolls straight into the keeper's arms.

Benjamin Mendy's cross sails over and out to the other side for a throw-in.

It's getting more frustrating for Man City.

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

This really is good from Newcastle. Raheem Sterling and David Silva are trying everything they can to link-up, find the gaps and weave the ball between defenders.

Miguel Almiron is even back to defend, intercepting a pass to Silva, cutting it around him and laying it off to a teammate inside.

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

Miguel Almiron hastles Benjamin Mendy and wins the ball off him, just outside the Man City box.

He is all on his own and has to muster something out of nothing. He chooses to shoot from long range and it's nearer to the corner flag than the goal...

    Good chasing down though!

  10. CLOSE!published at 58 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

David Silva pops a ball up at the back post and Gabriel Jesus is there waiting to nod it in. It's a little too high and he's stretching to keep it in play, under pressure from Martin Dubravka and Paul Dummett. In the end, it bobbles wide. Corner? Nothing given.

David: Joelinton has the slowest acceleration of any footballer I have ever seen. A drunk sloth would be quicker off the mark.

Kevin de Bruyne drops a shoulder and cuts inside. He tries one of his trademark curlers - like the one he pulled off in the warm-up - but skies it. Way over.

  13. 'City are giving Newcastle chances to get behind the ball'published at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2019

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder on BBC 5 Live

Newcastle have got a great back five with the four playing in front.

City need to do it quicker, get some key crosses or create opportunities with Kevin de Bruyne.

At the moment they are giving Newcastle every chance to get behind the ball.

City have got to get the goal earlier and not get desperate towards the end otherwise they will be vulnerable to counter-attacks as it happened against Wolves.

Jonjo Shelvey smacks the free-kick well wide.

What a waste after such a brilliant piece of play!

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 54 mins

    Newcastle 1-1 Man City

Raheem Sterling lets the ball roll through his legs for David Silva on the edge of the box but the Spaniard loosely gives it away.

It's Federico Fernandez who intercepts and he goes on a darting run through the middle, beating one, then two, then three players. It bobbles off him and into the path of Joelinton, who is then brought down by Fernandinho. Into the book!

    Brilliant play from Fernandez!

This is better - sharper - from City. Kevin de Bruyne is slipped in on the right by Riyad Mahrez and he cuts it back first time towards Gabriel Jesus.

It's smart defending at the near post by Paul Dummett to only concede a corner.

I'm so happy with that first half. I honestly think Newcastle are going to replicate last seasons game against city. There's only one team going to win this in the second half! Steve Bruce's black and white army!

    Beansy, Northumberland

Watching City this season is hard going. Everyone behind the ball and too slow a build up to break teams down. All adds up to a difficult watch.

Allan Saint-Maximin continues to work hard down the left. He gets a yard on Kyle Walker, swivels and tries to find Joelinton in the centre but it doesn't reach.

A slow start to the second half.

Nice from Miguel Almiron - a neat little turn to decieve Ilkay Gundogan. Javier Manquillo links up with him to win a throw-in on the right but Benjamin Mendy uses his body well to defend it and it rolls out for a goal kick.

Straight away, Martin Dubravka has his hands on the ball. Raheem Sterling slips it left to Benjamin Mendy, who curls an early ball into the box.

The Newcastle keeper gets there ahead of Gabriel Jesus.
